One way Clint Eastwood does this is by starting the film with Chris Kyle’s decision on whether or not to shoot a kid with a grenade launcher on the battlefield. By starting the film with this scene it shows the complexity of the decisions snipers have to make on the battlefield. By having Chris Kyle hands shake and whisper to himself please don’t pick it up please don’t it makes him seem human. It does this because it shows he has the same emotions as everybody else. By showing his experiences as a child like hunting with his dad right after it allows the viewer to immediately put themselves in Chris Kyle’s shoes. Clint Eastwood makes Chris Kyle feel like a hero by showing how the attacks on the American embassies in Tanzania and Kenya made him decide to join the Navy. This makes the audience feel like Chris is a true patriot who is willing to stand up when somebody challenges America. The continues stresses between him and his wife Taya on tour in Iraq show how he is just like everybody else. By showing these issues it allows you to see the human side of Chris during all these gunfights going on in the film during the same time.
