Le Guin, a wife is struggles after finding out that her husband is a werewolf. Every night, the husband would leave not telling his wife where he was going and come back smelling awful and being silent. After many nights, their daughter begins to be frightened and says “Make it go away, make it go away” (Le Guin CR5). Her daughter calling the husband “it” , really made the mother question what was going on when her husband would leave at night. One night, she follows her husband as he sneaks away and that is when she finds out that her husband isn’t just a regular wolf, he’s a werewolf. After the shock settles in, her first and only instinct is to attack him. The wife was raised to attack humans before they kill you and that’s how she has raised her own children. They believe that all men will always have a gun ready to kill the wolves until “The man looking around. It had no gun, like the ones from the man places do” (CR7). She won’t accept her husband for what he cannot help and for that she ends up killing him with her family. Her husband cannot help how he was born and his wife doesn’t love him enough to let him live after finding out his differences. In both American Flag Stands for Tolerance and The Wife’s Story, the main person in the text has a struggle with accepting someone because of the things they believe and what another person stands for. While in The Lottery, we are shown the struggles of a community who will not change their ways until it affects them directly. Once they are affected directly they are then willing to accept the new ways of the world and stray away from the old ways of doing things. The main importance of the unit is there are different forms of accepting others and accepting things. Life will be hard until you learn to accept the way other people
