Theory Outline
Argumentative Research Statement:
The purpose of this project is to show summary of how Alvin Ailey popularized modern dance around the world in 20th century. This project will focus on how his thought and works motivated African American people for their dreams and influenced people as not only a dancer but also a humanist.
Theoretical Approach Argument:
The theoretical approach in this research of this project is race and culture. In the Mid 20th century, there were still a lot of prejudice and racial discrimination against African America people. For example, they were not allowed to attend same schools or go to same churches as white people. Of course, it was difficult for African American dancers to get opportunities to perform in stages because of their skin color. Mr. Ailey made all African American dance group and went to tour all over the world to show the beauty of African American people and taught that skin color wasn’t important, and we were all human beings. He established modern dance as a popular art in America. As a choreographer, dancer and director, he also encouraged African American to participate in 20th-century concert dance. Mr. Ailey made all African American dance group and went to tour all over the world to show the beauty of African American people and taught that skin color wasn’t important, and we were all human beings. In addition, his dance inspired many people not only as a dancer but also as a humanist. His work touched African American through dance to reach for their dreams. His legacy has been kept and expanded even after he died on December 1, 1989. He was proud to have multiracial dance company and give opportunities to minorities without preference to any race which have continued with his dance company
