In the story, All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury, takes place in a dystopian life where kids live with their family on planet Venus. This may sound super fun, but on the contrary, it rains and rains and rains and rains. Every seven years the sun shines down on planet Venus for just one hour. Most kids do not remember the sun since they are so young, but Margot is different. She has come over from Earth fairly recently. She grieves the beautiful sun everyday, and this grieving can be observed by her confused classmates. With all viewpoints in consideration, a theme for this short story has evolved from the text: It is difficult to watch someone grieve what you never had. One reason it could be difficult for these kids to understand Margot, …show more content…
The kids are shown as jealous of Margot when the story explains, “And they had written small stories or essays or poems about it: I think the sun is a flower, That blooms for just one hour. That was Margot’s poem, read in a quiet voice in the still classroom while the rain was falling outside. “Aw, you didn’t write that!” protested one of the boys. “I did,” said Margot. “I did.’” If being jealous of someone means that you are rude towards them, then this boy is showing jealousy when he is rude to …show more content…
These kids were originally jealous of Margot and her knowledge because they didn’t understand why she was grieving; so in a sense, they had a lack of answers to Margot and her pain. The kids’ anger towards Margot eventually leads to jealousy. On the contrary, once they did experience the sun, they understood Margot’s sadness and they soon began to grieve the sun too. The jealousy these kids experienced is something that people in everyday life experience. There is always something that you may want that another has: therefore, your reaction is to be either angry or jealous. In this case, kids on Venus are going through a vicious cycle of jealousy because one day there will be new kids in this classroom who have never experienced the sun, with maybe a tiny little girl who has experienced the

Ray Bradburry’s All summer in a Day Teaches readers to not bully or be jelous over somthing you cant controll because it could lead to a serious hate or bulling another person. My Evidance is that in the story all her classmates start to tease her or shout and yell at her because they are jelous of her because she remembers what the sun is like. Also they think that Margot is lying about the sun. Then on page two third paragraph William gave Margot a shove.…

And the kids knew this. The children were very jealous of Margot because she used to be able to see the sun often while they only see it every seven years. Their jealousy led them to lock Margot in the closet while they all got to go outside and play in the sun. All of the children didn't have any control over what she sees and locking her in the closet wouldn't fix any problem.…

They walked over to the closet door slowly and stood by it. They unlocked the door, even more slowly, and let Margot out.” (4). This scene particularly supports the message of guilt and happiness all at the same time in the short story All Summer in a Day because it shows the guilt part of guilt and happiness. The children had just realized the terrible deed they had just done.…

Unlike Margot, they had never gotten the opportunity to see the sun. Hearing her regularly talk about it and even write poems--it brought them despair. They thought that the only way to get even and feel what Margot had felt would be to take that sun away from her...and enjoy it all for themselves. One can argue that the children just didn’t know better, and that is why they behaved like this, but that is in fact a misinterpreted assumption. This is because after they had seen the sun, they were no longer jealous, therefore, they had stopped acting boorish.…

The other children who live on Venus have only seen the sun once when they were two years old. I think that the theme of this story is that jealousy can make people do things that they wouldn’t normally do because of the way they treat Margot because she can still remember the sun. For example, when Margot was writing a poem about the sun, a boy named William exclaimed. “‘Aw, you didn’t write that!”’ That shows how much tension is between her and the other kids.…

It rains every day there and no one has seen the sun in a long time, except for a small girl named Margot who is bullied for remembering the sun when the other children don’t. Margot was “a very frail girl who looked as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost.” This confirms what Margot looks like. The story hints that something happened to Margot that caused her to be this way.…

For example Margot has seen the sun before with the memory of it because she lived on the earth for 4 years before she actually moved to Venus. She keeps writing poems on how the sun looks like, for example she writes a poem about how the sun is like a flower the blooms for just one hour. She is petty much just telling people how the sun looks to make herself feel better. But the other kids don't really believe that she has been on earth for four years and has seen the sun before with memory of it. Margot gets into a fight arguing with a boy about her seeing the sun.…

Margot wrote a poem where she stated, “I think the sun is a flower,” and the other children describe the sun more aggressively as a fire. A world without the sun was an avalanche, a tornado, a volcanic eruption, catastrophic and destructive in every way, but once the sun was out it became “a beautiful tropic slide,” two very different images not battling but not concurring. Somehow this world was “flowering in this brief spring,” but was also, “the color of rubber and ash,” contradicting each other because of one thing, the sun. We see how different Margot thinks of the world than the other kids since she knows the sun better. The other kids have known this dark world their whole lives and are accustomed to it whereas Margot knows the beautiful world.…

In this story many of the children on Venus are jealous of Margot’s opportunities and previous life on earth. When children are jealous, they turn against Margot. One example is when she is reading the poem, instead of listening to Margot the students shut her down without even listening. Just because students are jealous it does not mean that they can bully Margot. While this is important theme it is easily seen that if it weren’t for Margot not thinking about what she said or did that this wouldn’t have happened, so overall the important point is that it is needed for everyone to take a minute an think about the results in the end from what they…
