I have to say that even though this podcast was less interesting than the podcast we listened to last week this episode still had several insightful ideas. One of the innovative ideas that was said in the podcast that stood out to me the most is the fact that in the podcast it was said that boredom is actually a useful thing because it can put us in a state of mind that leads to creativity. The example that they give is based an experiment where volunteers were asked to think about a memory. It was found out that the more bored volunteers get when they are asked to think about a memory the more that it leads to nolgastic thinking. I wasn’t sure what nolgastic thinking meant, so I searched it up to gain a better understanding of it. Nolgastic …show more content…
I asked my sister what she thought about this and she said “ Yeah, I actually do agree with the fact that boredom is a useful thing because boredom is not a problem to be solved. It’s the privilege of the free mind. I think boredom can help a person learn more about themselves and the world than you think.” She also mentioned that the best antidote people decide on to overcome boredom these days is to use their cell phone and entertain themselves with social media, which is not a good thing because studies show that the best antidote to boredom is actually thinking. We should teach the young people to feel comfortable with time.” This goes on to show that young people should learn how to overcome boredom without the need to use electrical devices because it can benefit people in many …show more content…
It is said that they get a sense of stimulation from the variety. One of the things that was said that is really memorable is “ If you look at the same things everyday, if you eat the same things everyday, if you hear the same things everyday, it can produce some negative psychological affects.” I realized that this is true because in my situation with the school lunch I can say that I’m bored with it because they usually serve the same food items. This prompts me to not even eat lunch at times because I’m just bored with it, but when I see that they serve something different that they usually don’t serve I get a feeling of satistaction from this. From this I realized that the lack of stimulation leads to boredom and that one way to solve this is variety. An additional idea that was expressed in the podcast is that a static environment gets people

When I was a child, I was often lectured by teachers. In order to endure the endless scolding, I started fantasizing or thinking something fun. For example, when I was a child, I often imagined about cartoons that I loved, and now, I often enjoy some kinds of thought experiments. Since I began the escapism, I have been able to tolerate what I had thought boring. Furthermore, Weiner also said, “You don’t like the way things are, they aren’t interesting enough for you, so you decide—and boredom is a decision—that you are bored.”…
