I asked my sister what she thought about this and she said “ Yeah, I actually do agree with the fact that boredom is a useful thing because boredom is not a problem to be solved. It’s the privilege of the free mind. I think boredom can help a person learn more about themselves and the world than you think.” She also mentioned that the best antidote people decide on to overcome boredom these days is to use their cell phone and entertain themselves with social media, which is not a good thing because studies show that the best antidote to boredom is actually thinking. According to Boredom Is Not A Problem to be Solved by Gayatri Devi, “ But boredom is not tragic. Properly understood, boredom helps us understand time, and ourselves. Unlike fun or work, boredom is not about anything; it is our encounter with pure time as form and content. It is said that they get a sense of stimulation from the variety. One of the things that was said that is really memorable is “ If you look at the same things everyday, if you eat the same things everyday, if you hear the same things everyday, it can produce some negative psychological affects.” I realized that this is true because in my situation with the school lunch I can say that I’m bored with it because they usually serve the same food items. This prompts me to not even eat lunch at times because I’m just bored with it, but when I see that they serve something different that they usually don’t serve I get a feeling of satistaction from this. From this I realized that the lack of stimulation leads to boredom and that one way to solve this is variety.
