The Populist Party, also known as the People’s Party, was largely made up of workers who sought to bring power to the common man. The party was largely agrarian but also contained many miners and members of labor unions. These people were forward-looking because of their desire to reform and the fact that they embraced change. They were liberal reformers that desired fairer treatment as big business flourished. The populists sought to bring about change by raising the price of crops, fixing the rate of railroads, and combating the general debt and financial hardship of the common worker.…
Paul Krugman, an editor for the New York Times, writes about current issues of minimum earnings in his editorial, Raise the Wage, published on February 17 2013. Paul discusses a increase in the minimum wage and how it would be beneficial to raise the current rate from $7.25 by less then $2. this increase would be in line with our natural inflation, would benefit the lower working class by raising incomes of “hard-working but low-paid Americans”, and supports his claim with rhetorical devices of hyperboles and use of the principles of ethos trough quotation and sighting his sources. Paul Krugman bashes republicans throughout his article and generalizes Republican men by overstating and over exaggerating a small minority of extremist, as there are in any groups based on religion politics or morals. Though a bit degrading, Paul Krugmans use of this hyperbolic structure i found quite entertaining and can easily draw in those with even the slightest amount of political knowledge.…
http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/360799-poll-60-percent-to-blame-trump-gop-for-obamacare-problems ………… ………….. The aphorism ‘You broke it, you bought it’ comes to mind, and while somewhat unfair to the situation, perception is reality in the world of politics. While not endeavouring to reign blows upon a deceased equine, this is why the Republican party needed to keep it’s promise on Obamacare. It’s also the reason why it’s time to sweep away the old and begin anew with a brand new second major political party.…
is a federal political party in Canada devoted to the protection of Quebec's interests in the House of Commons of Canada, and the promotion of Quebec sovereignty. The Bloc was formed by Members of Parliament who defected from the federal Progressive Conservative Party and Liberal Party. BQ founder Lucien Bouchard was a cabinet minister in the federal Progressive Conservative government of Brian Mulroney. The BQ seeks to create the conditions necessary for the political secession of Quebec from Canada and campaigns actively only within the province during federal elections. A Critique of Fiorina’s “The Decline of Collective Responsibility in American Politics” In the early 1980s, political scientists were studying the changing status of American political parties (Fiorina 1981). During this time, Morris P. Fiorina wrote his essay to address these findings, most notably what he believes to be the decline of political parties. Fiorina concludes that strong political parties provide electoral accountability and discipline in government and keep the system afloat. Without it, the consequences are dire.…
In 1787, the Continental Congress was brought together in the Philadelphia Convention to revise the Articles of Confederation. The Constitution was written and since people had different views on how to interpret it, two political parties were eventually formed: The federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. The main reason for the rise of political parties during the 1790s was because each of the parties favored different political and economical reforms needed as a new, developing country. Alexander Hamilton led the Federalists and they favored a loose interpretation of the Constitution, while Thomas Jefferson and the Democratic-Republican Party favored strict interpretation. The Federalists wanted to create a national economy by creating…
Third-Party Voting Is Not An Option More than any election before, voters want a viable third-party candidate. We have third-party candidates, of course, but none of them are going to win. The system of government we have set up completely blocks any third-party candidate from even having a chance of winning. Even candidates that aren’t a third party candidate and win the majority vote, Al Gore, for example, aren’t guaranteed to win. In 2000, Al Gore won the majority vote for most states, but because of the electoral college, Bush won the election overall.…

The populist party arose in the late 1800's because many farmers felt that the system was rigged- they worked, worked and did everything they possibly could yet still failed to get ahead. The United States was shifting from an agrarian to an industrial economy. This left farmers unable to sell their crops on a global scale, and left many of them in a lot of debt. Farmers from all over sought out better political representation and formed the Populist Party, which stemmed from the “Farmer’s Alliance”. This “people’s” party was designed to help better the lives of farmers and rural families.…
