“Jesus Freak” or Jesus Fake “Christian” is a common label in today’s society. Christians are supposedly people who believe the Truth of the Bible and accept the salvation that Jesus Christ offers. In 2012, the Pew Research Center performed a demographic study on “The Global Religious Landscape” that shows that Christians makes up 31.5 percent of the global population (“Global Religious Diversity”). While that percentage means 2.2 billion people claim Jesus as Lord and Savior, the percentage of the population that truly embraces an authentic faith is unknown (“The Global Religious Landscape”). Not every Christian is authentic and that is seen on social media. On the social media website of Instagram, Christianity is misrepresented and glorified by teenagers and can be represented more authentically if teenagers begin taking seriously Jesus dying on the cross, stop posting selfies with Bible verses, and start acting the same online and offline. A selfie is a picture of a person that is taken by the person. Many times, Bible verses accompany selfies in the captions. While selfies and Bible verses do not seem like a big issue on the surface, there is a deeper issue at the heart. The problem is that, more times than not, teenagers care more about how many like the photo than the impact of the Bible verse. The Bible verse is sometimes even used as an excuse to post the selfie. Posting selfies with Bible verses is an unsatisfying and vain way to increase self-esteem. Jesus never made much of himself, but made much of God. Christian teens should stop and realize that their posts are a reflection of Jesus. Jesus was humble, not conceited; teenagers should strive to reflect him in that way.(Bible
