Coming into this class last semester I didn’t know what to expect, not having taken any AP classes before, I was particularly anxious. I remember sitting there that first week constantly thinking “what have I gotten myself into?” I ended up staying despite being afraid of how I would perform because I trusted it would be a fun class based on the teacher and the familiar faces. I was right to trust my gut because the class quickly became one of my favorites in which I felt secure. The experience has been a new one for me, I’m learning from both the teacher and from my peers who are surprisingly very passionate about English class. I’m amazed by their words everyday and they inspire me to want to learn more about literature. One glaring fault …show more content…
We learned about the absurd while analyzing Camus’ The Stranger in the beginning of the first semester and it has been broughten up time and time again. Towards the end of the first semester when we opened up Hamlet, Hamlet himself asks “to be or not to be.” So this idea that we continue to look for purpose in life when life has no purpose has stuck with me. Outside of school this has come up when I stay up late thinking about the meaning of life or in random discussions. When I was in Virginia over break I spent quite a bit of time speaking to my sister and her husband about the meaning of life. My brother-in-law, who shares most of the same beliefs as me, asked me “what do you think is the purpose of life is?” I sat there a little thrown off guard and immediately thought about this class and the quote about the man calling out to the universe and the universe not caring at all. I replied with a simple “there’s no meaning,” but I feel now that I need to share Crone’s quote with him. My sister joined in by saying that we need to make meaning and my little brother replied with “you’re all going to hell.” Ironically we were on our way to buy a birthday cake to celebrate life. Aside from conversations I think about the meaning of life and what I want out of it if I believe there’s no

In fact, before signing up for this class, I did not know the proper way to compose an academic essay for a particular audience, and how to properly cite my sources. Nevertheless, after the short summer session, I am able to define my purpose and audience, analyze critically any piece of information, and write with proper citations and fewer grammatical errors with confidence. Through the short time of 5 weeks, I learned how to focus on my audience as well as how to define the purpose of my papers as academically as possible.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

Sitting at my desk in english class, 15 minutes before the end of the period, feeling a small sense of deep inner satisfaction from my work in the previous double period of Draw/Paint level 4, I held a piece of paper in my hands pertaining the information and guidelines of a common app essay. Somewhat confused, I stared blankly at the paper. The bolded words of the length requirement and the due date stuck out against the pure white like a needle through the skin of my finger. I felt a deep sense of dread as I was trying to brainstorm an immediate idea as to what I could write about. I thought of the lessons I learned from my father on right and wrong.…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

We were all born into this world, with a distinct purpose; in which this purpose could be different for everyone. Some individuals purpose in life might be to be an innovator and invent the world’s greatest invention, while another individual’s purpose in life is to help others. By not having a purpose in life we are not living, but just running through the motions. With this in mind, my worldview is extended to be an individual that has a purpose in life to help others and make others happy, through laughter. When I am talking with someone, I try to add humor or words of encouragement to the conversion and try to not talk down on anyone else, but to enlighten their spirits.…

It’s tough to remember the first time that I heard the age-old question about the purpose of life because I’ve heard it so much. However, the first time that I really took time to think about this question was a few weeks ago. I recall waking up in the morning and asking myself a simple question, “What am I looking forward to today?” To my surprise, I couldn’t answer the question and I realized that I was currently living an extremely boring and meaningless life. I then stumbled upon another question, “What is the purpose of my life and what am I going to do in the future?”…
