There are voluminous types of hardships encountered. Individuals face many struggles, one of the bigger are relationships, including conflicts with family, friends, or boyfriends/girlfriends. Subsequently, the key is trying to stay as upbeat as possible. When Anne Frank and her family moved from their home into hiding, the first thing Anne said was “I’m still alive and that's the main thing.”(Frank 373) Anne had nothing but her family, yet she still felt grateful. When she was packing to go into hiding, Anne packed pictures to help her stay optimistic. She stated, “Memories mean more to me than dresses.”(Frank 374) Staying affirmative helped Anne until she was found and killed. Moreover, a war veteran, Peter Ertel, shared his story of horror to hope while he was at war. Drafted into the German army in the early stages of WWII, Peter left behind his son and family. He always tried to stay constructive because Peter knew one day karma would come back in his favor. Every time there was an opportunity to be a Good Samaritan, Peter obliged. As a POW transferred to a camp in America, one day as he was waiting in Grand Central Station, a toy ball (similar to the one he had bought his son for his 3rd birthday) rolled to his feet. A young American boy came over and told Peter he could keep it. That gesture gave Peter much hope in the kindness of others from different cultures. Peter eventually was freed from the camp and moved his family to America for a happy ending. Hence, with a progressive outlook, Peter is now 94 years old and a proud American citizen with his family living in the United
