Happiness for Americans is freedom as one can see in George Washington Crossing the Delaware by Emanuel Leutze. The Revolutionary War to free the American people is driven by the pursuit of happiness. This happiness is a promise for people who support the rebellion. Supporting this rebellion is an easy thing to do though with George Washington in control due to his extraterrestrial ability to lead, to confront problems, and to be patient for the happiness that follows a problem. This painting represents a fight for freedom and in the end, happiness for all. In this work of art, the sun is not visible due to the clouds which represents the struggle for freedom and the sun itself represents happiness that comes afterward. These are accurate

In chapter six of, “His Excellency: George Washington”, Joseph J. Ellis, argues that there were only two presidents in our nations history - Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt – who experienced as much of a proportionate crisis to George Washington. The author makes several valid points showing Washington’s greatest upheavals and unfortunate downfalls. I agree with Ellis in that when George Washington entered as our president of the United States, he faced several problems throughout his presidency.…

1776 was written by renowned author David McCullough and retells the events of the American Revolution. The book closely follows George Washington as he commands the American army through the hardships that they faced in these times. Both Washington and his soldiers dealt with harsh conditioning which lead to low morale. This sense of overall gloom contributed to the departing of many of the soldiers in the war and some even took weapons or other trinkets of war as collateral for their time spent. Washington is seen today as a outstanding general and the main reason for the overall victory of the independence of America but at the time he was seen as unfit for such a high possession in the army that would be leading a Revolution against the British Empire.…

From the moment talk began spreading across the colonies, independence was destined to be more than an idea. Dead if he was caught, this fight was not for a coward; revolution is not for a coward. The generic colonist was not ready to fight a war of such magnitude. The battle cry of freedom resonated in the hearts of the colonists; freedom from taxes, freedom from tyranny, freedom from oppression.…

According to Jensen, the American Revolution was “of brief duration, but while it lasted an attempt was made to write democratic ideals and theories of government into the laws and constitutions of the American states” (Historians and American Revolution 59). Moreover, by analyzing the long-term effects of the American Revolution, one can conclude that it was a radical act to those who had fought and died for the cause. However, it was not all that revolutionary for those who lived after, as not much changed. People still lived in order to trade, work, sleep, and…

One definition of the word “pursuit” is “the act of chasing,” but that does not ensure the target in mind will be caught (American Heritage College Dictionary 1132). However, others argue, including Professor Brent Strewn of Emerson University and historian Arthur Schlesinger, that the “pursuit of happiness” is rather “the experience of happiness” (Strewn, par. 8). Furthermore, Virginia’s Declaration of Rights, authored by George Mason, complicates Jefferson’s meaning by adding to the “pursuit of Happiness” the “obtaining” of happiness (Mason). However, Jefferson was also influenced by Voltaire, a French philosopher, and his novella, Candide, which disproves Gottfried Leibnitz’s theory that the world is the “best of all possible worlds” through the satirical adventure of an optimist (Voltaire, ch. 1).…

Rationalist Thomas Jefferson quotes “We might have been free and a great people together; but a communication of grandeur and of freedom, it seems, is below their dignity.. The road to happiness and to glory is open to us too” ( Jefferson 117 paragraph 22). Thomas Jefferson uses ethos as he addresses both sides of the situation by explaining that in the past they had freedom and now they are at limitations for happiness. He uses his character to provide suggestions towards the common people by explaining how it is their right to be happy, however these hopes and aspiration are diminished because of the British King. “He has waged cruel war against human nature itself, violating its most sacred rights of life liberty in the persons of a distant people who never offended him, captivating and carrying them into slavery in another hemisphere, or to incur miserable death in their transportation thither”…

When I visited George Washington my sophomore year of high school, I instantly knew that your school is where I wanted to go for college. It just wasn't like any of the other colleges that I had seen before, and for that matter it was unlike any I have seen since. I saw that GW is in a beautiful location and that its presence in the capitol greatly enhances both its value and the city’s around it. I really liked walking around the campus, as it was extremely vibrant. I saw that safety is also important, and the combination of security that holds jurisdiction in this area is extremely reassuring.…

The presidents of the united states were all chosen for a reason, presidents were not randomly picked. However, the way each one acts, and the things each one do, make up their legacy. George Washington created this thing called a "citizen President" (Father of the nation, paragraph 3). Washington was the strongest president of the three because he didn't go based on rules and standards, but he made the rules and standards other presidents used till this day. Washington was one of our best and strongest presidents because he knows what he's doing.…

Gregg Frazer, author of “The American Revolution: Not a just war” affirms that the American Revolution was much more than just a war. Although it was based on the Illuminist ideals that preached ideals of freedom and equality of rights, the independence of the United States was realized by the colonial elite and aimed at guaranteeing the interests and privileges of this class. It has inspired other similar movements in America. For the first time in the history of European expansion, a colony became independent through a revolutionary act. And he did so not only by proclaiming to the world, in the historical document approved on July 4, the right to independence and free choice of every people and every person ("the right to life, freedom…

Mosley believes that in comparison to life and liberty, “our potential for happiness has lagged far behind.”…
