He talks about how he looked up to his mom and how well she did her job as a waitress, then his uncle as a mechanic that grew into a management position. I do not know about you but, It made me think about how much I looked up to my family and made me feel happy. What child did not look up to their parents and wanted to work as hard as they did, and be as strong as a person as their parents? Rose also talked about his mom being able to read the body language and attitude of her customers, which made me think of someone in my life that can always tell when something is off with me. Does it not make you feel good when you are having a bad day and someone comes to you and says I am here for you if you need to talk or if you need anything. It always makes me feel like someone loves me and cares about me. The education level of his family makes you feel the sad at first, and then it makes you happy. His family did not get very far with their education, and did not have the best jobs in the world. Luckily Rose was able to overcome the struggles that his family experienced and get his degree in teaching. He was an amazing example of showing how the underdog was able to overcome the adversity and trials that his family had to deal with and accomplish more than any member of his family. Rose talks about how society talks and thinks highly of White Collar jobs, which is cool and makes …show more content…
No, the article was not lacking in Ethos, but it was for sure the least used rhetorical appeal in my perspective. When Rose talked about his family’s education level, positions at their jobs, and his own education level. Rosie his mother who left school in middle school, who was just a waitress. His uncle who’s education level who was not talked about, was a floor worker in the factory at General Motors, but he later was able to work his way up to become the manager of the paint department at GM .Rose’s education level was talked about when he said making it through high school with difficulty, barley getting into a small college and studying humanities and psychology. After he went to college and got his associates degree he then decided that going to back graduate school to become a teacher of humanities and psychology would be a good idea. You can tell he is well educated by the way he writes. The way his article flows, the style of writing, how easy it is to read. The imagery he uses to draw you in with the details of his story. Almost makes you feel like you were there when those things happened. This is all signs of a well educated and well written and experienced author. That is why I found Ethos used the least out of the three rhetorical

Rose admits to having a personal background with his topic which is displayed throughout the document. Rose states “When I was growing up in Los Angeles during the 1950s, my father and I occasionally hang out at the restaurant until her shift ended, and then we’d ride the bus home with her [Rose’s mother]” (Rose 702). He uses his mother and other family members as examples of people without a standard educational background; yet, they are still capable of learning and adapting to their environment and any task that is given them just as any other scholar. On the other hand, Obama uses a similar approach with the intention of gaining a different response from her audience. Obama wants to audience to be able to understand and relate to her experiences.…

There are many people who believe that college isn’t for everyone and there are many people who believe that it is. Both sides usually have valid arguments, and typically, they both stick to their belief and assume that they’re right. After reading two essays, one called “What’s Wrong with Vocational School?” by Charles Murray, and another called “On ‘Real Education’” by Robert T. Perry, I came to the conclusion that they both agree on the same thing. They both believe that no, a four-year college isn’t for everyone, but people still need some sort of education after high school, whether it’s vocational school, or some type of certificate program.…

The day is warm, above the seventies as we enter the month of April. The hospital is quiet, its white walls giving off a calm feeling. My eyes closed, I breathe in and out, thankful for the position I find myself in: happiness. Happiness for being someone I always wanted to be: a physician assistant. I hope to one day find myself in that exact positon one day in the near future, fulfilling not only my dreams but also my mother’s dreams of me becoming a physician assistant.…

The Mind at Work, written by Mike Rose is a story about day-to-day jobs that people partake in for a living, his main purpose of this story was to make people aware of the need to take notice of forms of intelligence that have not been tested through IQ tests and bring various things together like how the brain and hand can not be separated, they work dynamically. In this essay, I will go over the key points that I thought Rose wanted his readers to understand also, what I disagree with and agree with and also how the hand and brain work together. I found that the first couple of chapters in the book went over the key points rather than the last couple of chapters, Rose explains that all work has some sort of skill required to do the job…

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way” these are the words of Viktor Frankl that have fueled me within the last few years. After traumatically losing my leg in an accident I did not lose my positive attitude toward life or my desire to help others, I choose my own way to continue the path I was following before this tragedy struck. From the age of 18 as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to age 25 working as a Mental Health Associate (MHA) at a hospital, I chose to lead a life of service. My drive to assist others as a CNA would be the catalyst for me discovering that I wanted to be a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. It was through my work that I discovered the common ground of suffering, but also the resilience of the human spirit.…

Preparing for this exam was unlike any other exam for me. I have recently accepted a job at Easter Maine Medical Center, as a nursing tech, and the hours of orientation have been challenging to balance with my studies. My new job has required even greater time management than I have previously implemented. I worked a thirteen-hour shift the day before the exam, worked immediately after the exam, and then completed an online midterm for my socio-cultural nursing class that evening. Although I have not received my exam grade, I felt very prepared and confident due to my strict time management.…

For example, Asimov has no idea when it comes to fixing his automobile. Asimov’s auto mechanic fixed his car every time it was not running properly. Although the auto mechanic could not score well on an academic exam, he was intelligent in his own trade. Asimov states that “in a world where I could not use my academic training and my verbal talents but had to do something indicate or hard, working with my hands, I would do poorly” (Asimov). Asimov explains that if he had to take an intelligence test for carpenters, farmers, or anyone but an academician, he would prove to himself that he is a fool.…

This shows us a good use of ethos; another use of ethos is when Obama sites the text by saying “Clem once said.” Obama uses pathos when he says that Clem is a good man and then he says that a good man is the best thing to hope for when you are eulogized. This gives emotions because it would not be a very nice thought to be eulogized and what is said about you not so good. He used the next sentence to show us credibility and emotions. When Obama talks about the accomplishments that Clem accomplished throughout his life time he shows logic because he said that not everybody has to be as accomplished as Clem at the time when he got out of school.…

My career in health care began 20 years ago in various areas of patient care (receptionist, claims analyst, medical assistant, case management and critical care nurse). For many years, I observed how many healthcare professionals often overlook patients’ lifestyle, spirituality, and the role it may play in their health care. To feel better equipped to address these needs in my work with patients, I completed in 2005 a BSN degree from the Florida Gulf Coast University School of Nursing (FGCUSN). During the undergraduate study at FGCUSN, I became a very active member of the National Nursing Student Association and served on the FGCUSN Nursing Student Association board as the Break Through to Nursing Board chairperson.…
