and other “smart” technologies, we allow them to have things like thought, personality and the ability to learn. When given these abilities, we try to study and see if these artificial things have the same thought processes as a human does. According to the article by Joel Achenbach, humans have a built in quality to progress that is given by the universe and this allows for evolutionary process. This is an important part in when humans create things like A.I. and other technologies, the reason being that the understanding of how this progressive quality works is what pushes the better understanding of our creations. To help stimulate this, we allow our creations to have thought and learning processes which allow for these things to be taught and to use the skills taught. This can be seen in “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” when bounty hunter Rick Deckard visits famous robotics company Rosen Association to help better understand the new androids codenamed the “Nexus – 6”. During this trip, he meets an android named Rachael Rosen and to confirm she is human administers a Voigt – Kampff test. This test is used to show the flaws in the android mainly the lack of empathy an android possesses. He does the test and she fails but Rick is told that she is human. Through this revelation, Rick begins to question the test and the flaws in it. He is then told that Rachael was in fact an android and was taught to show a lack of empathy. The article speaks about how as humans we have a capacity to love, experience joy, ecstasy, compassion and understanding. These traits are vital in the development of a human being and can be easily shaped into good or evil. These traits are also seen in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep when a character named Pris Stratton recalls her time on Mars with her best friends Roy and Irmgard Baty. She, an android feels a degree of fear in the life she has and wants a person named John Isidore to understand her pain. This part is very interesting in that she is trying to get a human (John) to understand her pain and this is a trait normally associated with humans. This along with many other instances in the novel that and android tries to gain empathy from a human show that these machines have not only learned how to communicate and have mannerisms like a normal human would but are also trying to illicit human emotion and are afraid of many of the things humans are. This idea is show in Chappie when while he is in an argument with Deon and the gangsters asks “Why do you humans lie all the time?”. This question asked is moving because it not only shows that Chappie has an
