Throughout time, nations have risen and fallen using power to rule one another. The left side of the photo in figure 1 explores the use of power by fire. Another perspective is the “soldier” examined earlier is about to assault the other individual in an attempt to display power. In history, the use of fire to exterminate and eradicate human lives and disease was common. As the individual in the foreground approaches the other in the background, one can see the strength of the character with the right foot advancing towards the other figure. The fires on the top of the photo creates a barrier forcing the other individual to walk in the other direction which is another display of power and control. The dominance of being able to control the individual is essential to power. The photo on the right hand side shows the powerful atomic bomb with the mushroom-shaped plume as the focal point. One can see the intensity and power it contains that was necessary to stop the Japanese during World War II. The United States showed the dominance of power that was recognized by the world in the form of a bomb. The representation of power in figure 1 still continues as the world strives to show their dominance with the amount of nuclear weapons. The smoke on the left side represents mankind and the ability to recover from such events. As the smoke is rising, the direction its heading is towards the light symbolizing a renewal. When a forest fire occurs and hundreds and thousands of acres are destroyed, angiosperm, encased seeds, plants and regrows at a later time. Because of the encasement, angiosperm seeds have the ability to recover from such events and survive from being extinct. The photo on the right, also a symbol of growth, shows total destruction within the vicinity of the blast zone. The stream of dust created lies all across the blast zone area. When the atomic bomb was used on the Japanese in World War II, the Japanese were able to recover. Within a short period of time, the Japanese were able to focus their goal into becoming an economic powerhouse instead of a military nation. Japan was able to turn into a first world country because of humanities ability to recover. This is similar to other events that occur in history. Another symbol of rebirth can be seen in the contrast between dark and light in figure 1. The shadowy darkness located on the bottom left side of the photo shows the unknown of a once possibly lush area. The sepia color tone enhances the fires intensity in comparison to the dark area on the bottom. This is similar to the right side where the gentlemen are hiding behind a line of shadow while the upper portion
