Biblical Viewpoint of Homosexuality When viewing homosexuality from a Biblical perspective, it is easy to see that the practice of having sex while being gay or lesbian is a sin. In Leviticus 18 verse 22 it says, "Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable" (Leviticus 18:22, New International Version). This verse makes it ever so clear that the practice of having sex with the same gender is sinful and is detestable to God. It is important to note that this verse is condemning the sin and not the sinner. It specifically states that "laying with a man as you would with a woman." This means that God hates the sin of having sexual relations with the same sex, but He does not hate the sinner. Many …show more content…
If being gay or lesbian was illegal, fewer individuals would try to practice homosexuality, which means that more children would have the opportunity to grow up and learn life skills in the natural household, with a mother and a father (Watts, 2008). Along with growing up in a natural house, children would see that living the homosexual lifestyle and being gay or lesbian is wrong, which would lead to a fewer percentage of kids becoming gay (Watts, 2008). It is very important for children to grow up in a household with a loving father and mother, especially for the child to have the correct natural development. Teaching kids to accept the homosexual lifestyle is basically teaching kids to accept immorality, which leads children to a life that just accepts immorality and has no problem with it. Although, this may seem like it is okay because it is not a huge deal, it actually is a very big deal. If everyone were to grow up in this kind of lifestyle, the world would be in turmoil. Acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle leads to a society that struggles with gender and sexual confusion, which would do nothing but tear families apart and ruins the lives of …show more content…
It constantly promotes evil values as well as things like anti procreation and sin. People who agree that homosexuality should be legal need to understand the implications that homosexuality brings and the hurt and pain that is caused by it. The practice of homosexuality is hurtful to many people, and it is nothing but a perverted version of what humans were made to do. God made humans with the ability to have freedom of choice, but this does not mean that people should want to sin. Although everyone has the gift of forgiveness and grace from God, it is necessary to use common sense in every choice one makes. It is important that humans choose the right thing as to not further destroy the already messed up

While I personally do not support this lifestyle, I recognize that many in this day and age do. Even with this acceptance homosexuality is still a terrifying secret that many people keep to themselves for as long as they can possibly bear. They are afraid of what others will think of them or whether people will understand and accept them or not. Similarly, undocumented immigrants must hold fast to their secrets or risk deportation or unfair stereotyping.…

In the following chapter, Homosexuality a Christian Response, he starts discussing contextual observations regarding the Biblical passages that seem to address homosexuality. One initial comment that he makes in regards to Sodom and Gomorrah is that homosexual behavior is not singled out in that context but rather condemned overall with a long list of other sins. The same applies for the passage in Judges, as well as the rest of the Biblical references to homosexual. He then presents the context from Romans, and explains that while the passage seems to refer to homosexual behavior, the debate nowadays results from what is considered natural and unnatural sexuality. He highlights that given that Scripture only refers to homosexual behavior…

In this the ever-changing world, things that were once considered acceptable by society are rapidly evolving, and therefore homosexuality is another issue that can be resolved by looking at the facts. In an attempt to form our own moral judgements and beliefs, we must ask ourselves, are there any good reasons to think homosexual sex is wrong? And if so, is this because it is unnatural? And would it be wrong if it were unnatural? To answer these questions, we must look at some of the major arguments made against homosexual sex.…

Regardless to how one feels about it, everyone has the same right and the same freedom to do whatever they choose to do as long as it does not cause harm to anyone else. Same sex marriage does not cause harm to anyone. This is a matter of two people coming together for the sake of love who want to spend their life together. They should not have their civil rights violated just because they want to take a path that is not familiar or popular. They should not be judged critically because they do not fit into what has been known to be traditionally correct or politically correct.…

This argument is based on an “eros” relationship; it challenges people to apply Biblical passages to their idea of “eros” relationships and to not reject concepts of homosexuality in whole (Smith, 2006). The heterosexual relationship is shown through Genesis 2:23-25 "And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed" (KJV).…

The Gentiles were also guilty of substituting natural, God-given relations for those “contrary to nature” (Romans 1:26, ESV). In other words, both men and woman among the Gentiles were performing homosexual acts with one another. The behaviors done by the people of Romans are still seen today as a result of the fall. Those who have read other book of the bible concerning marriage and purity understand that homosexual acts are an abomination. God designed marriage and sex to be between one man and one woman.…

The complexity of the development of one’s sexual identity while growing up in a devoutly religious home is a multifaceted complexity; many religions remain unclear in their positions on sexuality. Sexualities other than heterosexuality are hardly discussed, and when they are, they’re connoted with terms like “abomination” or “unnatural.” However, even heterosexuality remains a grey area in many religions. While being heterosexual may mean being free from persecution, the sexual acts of heterosexual people, specifically women, are not. In this essay I will critique only Christianity, the religion I am accustomed to and was raised in.…

Homosexuality and the Bible There is no doubt that the bible is possibly one of the most influential pieces of writing recorded in history. It has impacted Christians and shaped their views and core beliefs ever since its’ beginning. Christians pride themselves in being truly “good and accepting” people, which is supposed to be the word that Jesus brought to his followers. However, an argument can be made that there are some aspects of the bible that are anything but loving or accepting; or are these just misconceptions that people have shaped throughout the years?…

There has been much debate on whether homosexuality is something that can be caused by biology or social construction. There has not been enough evidence to prove that either is true. However, I believe that homosexuality is just biology but the meaning behind homosexual acts has changed over time due to social construction The first use of the term homosexuality was in a letter between Karl and Maria Kertbeny on May 6th, 1868. Originally, sodomy is a crime that should be punished.…

Homosexuality is a constant topic in the media and is always being shunned with religious motives in both past and present. In recent news, politicians in some states are aiming for the criminalization of homosexuality while others are passing legislation for the recognition of same-sex marriages. Gay rights would make the world a better place. while accepting other people’s differences. Nobody can put themselves in their shoes, because they can’t choose whether they choose to be straight or gay, but discriminating them and stripping them from their civil rights, is just wrong and cruel of us as the United States, whom is also known as the county for freedom and our rights. We are hypocritical for saying how we have so many rights and we are such a free country, but when society dictates who can marry who, and people are being discriminated against and beaten on, that isn’t a practice of rights. Now, expressing you feel that homosexuality is a sin, is a religious right.…

The framers of the constitution lack the laws of discriminating upon people based on their sexual preferences or lifestyle; making hate crimes, discrimination, and inequality more common and accepted among citizens. By making anti-discrimination laws, legalizing gay marriage, allowing gays to serve in the military, allowing homosexuals to adopt and widely accepting the presence and equality of homosexuals, we set our future generations much more unbiased and accepting generation.…

My first question (http://goaskalice.columbia.edu/answered-questions/human-sexuality) I chose from the website goaskalice.com was, “How common is homosexuality in the United States?” I chose this question because as I straight, white, male, I rarely think of my identity and it interests and upsets me that so many have to deal with constantly wondering if they are alone. My brother is gay and I know struggled a lot through his childhood and still has to go through therapy because he for many years didn’t feel comfortable coming out. I was please by the beginning of the answer because “Alice” said “above all it’s important to understand that sexuality is a complicated issue.”…
