It appears to be that Narcan is cheaper and easier to use. Vivatrol is more than $1000 for most consumers, and Narcan is only about $30. Even if Vivatrol were free in the A Shot At Life program, Narcan seminars have a longer history of helping opioid users. Also, since heroin is addicting, it is easier for the dealers to overdose than to wait at least a week for an injection. Therefore, Narcan is a better solution than Vivatrol in that case. The people around the Long Island area who were close to dying due to overdose, attended Narcan seminars in Mineola and Holbrook. As a result, they used it properly, and gained their health back in a short period of time. A Shot At Life’s Vivatrol on the other hand, gives injections only for those who were opiod free for about 7-10 days, which can be difficult. However, Narcan does have side effects, which are low blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, and throwing up, but Vivatrol also has side effects which are pain-related symptoms, and nausua. Vivatrol can still be another option, but as for now Narcan would be the best choice due to it’s price and the fact that anyone can be trained in
