It is true that being able to communicate with each other allows people to interact, however, not every communicative experience is positive. Especially, when someone is using their verbal, as well as, nonverbal cues to harass someone. In the YouTube video, 10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman, a woman walks around minding her own business, while countless men degrade her through their demeaning word choice, obnoxious whistles, and impolite facial expressions. It is unfortunate that women cannot walk around the streets without being called absurd names or looked down upon. Moreover, Gendered Lives and Women and Men Speaking reinforce that men degrade women through their verbal and nonverbal cues. 10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman is a short two-minute video about a woman and her experience walking silently through Manhattan for ten hours, wearing jeans and a crewneck t-shirt. Literally, throughout the entire video, this women does not talk, she walks through the streets minding her own business and this does not stop men from talking to or approaching her. She is bombarded my obscene language and remarks towards her. When the men realize that she is not going to reply many of them stop making remarks or ignore her. I personally do not like that there is the possibility of me to be demoralized if I am walking down the street because a guy feels the need to foully let me know that he finds me attractive. Additionally, I do not like that I have to worry about what I am wearing. The woman in the video was conservatively covered and she was still harassed. I live in Phoenix, Arizona and I should not have to contemplate whether or not to wear shorts in the summer because I am afraid I will be verbally or nonverbally
