SUMMARY AND PROPOSITIONS According to Piaget “play is the children’ efforts to make environmental stimuli match their own ideas” (Piaget, 1962). Another definition of play is “the behavior with no external goals, undertaken more the process involved than for any purpose or end. Play is freely chosen, spontaneous, non-literal, enjoyable, and valued in itself. It involves children’s attempts to fit new experiences with what they know already.” (Shipley, 2007)
Play is a crucial part of healthy growth for all children. Play impacts all ranges of development such as social, emotional, cognitive and, physical development. Also, it gives children the chance to learn about the self, others, and the physical environment. (Catron & Allen, 2007).
Play is essential from earliest years of a child to school years. Children become used with words by playing with books that have letters on them. In the school years, children are regularly improving their language

The greatest toys involve children in many aspects of development. Also, it can be used in a several ways, depending on the child’s interests, ability, and imagination. The table below identifies what types of toys are the most appropriate for children according to their age.
AGE APPROPRIATE TOYS
Infants (0- 1 year old) Brightly-colored, lightweight toys that appeal to your baby's sight, hearing and touch such as rattles and squeeze toys.
Toddlers ( 1 -2 years old) Toys for this age group should be safe and be able to withstand a toddler's curious nature such as kiddy cars and musical tops.
Pre-Schoolers (3-5 years old) Toys for this age group can be creative or imitate the activity of parents and older children such as books and building blocks.
Child ( 5-9 years old) Toys for this age group should help your child develop new skills and creativity such as table games and crafts.
