College Essay On Academic Identity

In the United States there are many systems that are set up to make minorities fail. For example we have an educational system in which schools are more concerned with the attendance of the students rather than the quality of the education that they are receiving. For women there are these ingrained norms in the patriarchal society that they live in which limits their abilities to be involved in the government and to have the same treatment as men when it comes to pay or respect. There are so many systems that still push for the Elitism and the only way a person can combat that is through forging a strong academic identity by having a strong support system, academic goals and life goals.

So this leads for our stubbornness and passion to bring us down because when we believe in something we will not let it go, so in college this can potentially affect us since in college you have to try to compromise. My own identity profile articulates “ I am very argumentative and if i feel passionate about something I will not let it go” This shows that in college I might have the issue of trying to let others show me their opinions which will limit my college experience since college is about learning and freedom. Furthermore another implication is that we can also learn to become great leaders in our communities. In an academic interview Jessie Sevillano articulates “I see myself as a leader”. This explains that we have the potential to become great leaders whether it is leaders in our community or in college where it will help us the most. With the quality of being a leader we can help improve our impoverished community become better to prove that we are more than just a statistic. There will always be an oppressor who will expect us to fail but me must keep pushing to prove that wrong and the way to do that is through college, which will create the cycle of
