Ana Ortiz's Autobiography Analysis

Decent Essays
Editorial Feedback I had the opportunity to read my classmate Ana Ortiz’s autobiography whom I enjoyed learning more about. The part about her sister getting Dengue virus made the autobiography more interesting. There were enough details about her personal life to allow readers to get a general idea of who she is. I liked that Ana focused on being a part of the Latino community, but she should expand on it. She should elaborate on how the Latino community impacted her health. Before I read the third paragraph, I thought the community she was focusing on was being a part of the COMHE community. In terms of grammatical errors, I made some suggestions on the paper. I noticed that there were a few run-on sentences and the use of tense did not

In the first article a few main errors really strike me after the first, then second read of the paper. The thesis of a paper should present the topic of your paper and also make a comment about your position in relation to the topic. This being so, the writer does not go into detail about the specific rhetorical choices made by Jaschik. The lack of a clarifying thesis makes the paper seen jumbled, almost as if crucial information is randomly spliced throughout the piece. The second issue I noticed is that within the body paragraphs themselves, the same information seemed to be repeated over and over again, each time using a new arrangement of words.…

Sonia Sanchez advocates to a group of students at West Philly High, “I was supposed to be Norma. You were supposed to be Norma, too. I believe in the Normas of the world,” which reaffirms that one’s background does not dictate their future (Philly.com, n.d). In the article, “Five Social Disadvantages That Depress Student Performance”, the author stresses that poorer people “typically have lower test scores, are more likely to drop out of school, and have greater emotional and behavioral difficulties”, demonstrating that students with poorer backgrounds are less likely to be successful in the long run (2015). However, poet.org reveals that Sonia lived “in a poorer community” as a child and “because she lived in a crowded dwelling, she felt…

Images of the “Virgin of Guadalupe” seem to be everywhere. As a symbol of “freedom for the oppressed native populations” according to Jeanette Favrot Peterson author of The Virgin of Guadalupe: Symbol of Conquest or Liberation?, the Virgin of Guadalupe seems to be a reoccurring piece of art starting at the middle of the sixteenth century. A very unique piece in its own the “Virgin of Guadalupe” by Miguel Gonzalez in 1698, is part of Spanish colonial art but also consists of different techniques to emerge into a world where countless of the same image already existed. Miguel Gonzales created an image using inspiration by two places, first the image was surfacing throughout Mexico being replicated in the same way as the original. As with most , the trade of goods was involved to create the style Gonzalez used.…

I want to say that this paper can be great once you develop your arguments more. In terms of the introduction, I like the quote you included. It really gives the reader a perspective on what you are trying to say. An issue is that some of your sentences are too long and that will most likely detract the viewers’ attention from any points you are trying to make. I recommend making your sentences clearer and less lengthy, because the introduction is what gets the reader interested in your paper.…

    Essay On Hispanic Culture

    • 1679 Words

Coming into this paper I really had no idea what the core values of this culture were besides what you hear and see on TV and around the world. I think that a barrier I would definitely need to overcome is the negative image that society has put into not only mine but the rest of the world brain about Hispanics. They aren’t just here to “take our jobs”, they are people just like you and me, not everyone in the United States was raised in great riches either. These people tend to do whatever it takes so that they can make the money they need to provide for their families just like everyone else in this world. A cultural bias I would say I have is that a lot of the times the Hispanics you see are dirty old men that can’t seem to keep their eyes off of under-aged girls, or that they aren’t like the rest of us, but if you think about it this is not a culture to culture thing.…

Common Health Disparities in the Latino Population As individuals progress throughout their lives, healthcare plays an important role. Individuals rely on health care services to provide strong mental and physical health on their wellbeing. The types of health care that may be provided could consist of, but are not limited to, routine visits, surgery, rehabilitation, medications or full body screenings. Ultimately, the health care systems, as a whole, would be able to provide these necessary services. A main issue with healthcare is that not everyone receives the same quality of care.…
