Abstract

An ethical behavior in the corporate world is paramount and every employee working in the organization has the right to blow the whistle in case of sensing fraudulent activity in the organization. At the interest of the stakeholders, it is very important every penny invested in the company is property taken care and has been optimally utilized towards fetching better returns in the organization. An unethical behavior and account manipulation by the management in order to allure the stakeholder is a crime and this should not be encouraged at any level of the organization. So whistle blowing as an activity may be used to curb the fraud

We have made an attempt to understand one of the potential frauds in the history of United States Corporate Affairs, which could help to save many million dollars for the stakeholders. In the below discussion, we try to understand, how “Cynthia Cooper” as a Whistle Blower could save World Com by not filing the Chapter 11 because of insolvency. The problem in this case is that, how the management of WorldCom (("Worldcom 's collapse: The," 2002)) knowingly was doing accounting manipulations and it was Cynthia Cooper, who could prohibit this fraud happening. Adopting the Whistle Blowing Policy could help Cynthia Cooper to blow the whistle against management and do justice to the organization. (ii) Every employee has an option to raise whistle blowing concern beyond the line of the management, which helps the organization to take corrected actions in order to protect the interest of the organization.
(iii) Every employee has been offered with a right towards confidentiality and may develop the skill of speaking against the management when there are fraudulent activities in an organization.
(iv) A Good whistle blowing policy explains and lays guidelines to every employee to raise the concerns outside of the organization with appropriate institutions like regulators. This kind of initiatives brings the control on the tentative fraud with the help of regulators and the movements go in a legal way.
(v) Awareness among the employees with respect to the consequences of whistle blowing. Now if at all an employee is unaware of the activities and benefits of whilst blowing, he comes to know everything and does the same in future.
