An outstanding educator inspires, cares for, and believes in students. They have a passion for students’ growth and achievement. In their day to day teaching, their enthusiasm, flexibility, and consistency show. These teachers set high standards for their students, and the guide them towards meeting their set goals. Parents are well informed and important parts of the classroom community. An educator must not only communicate with parents, but fellow staff and work as team player to meet students’ needs. An outstanding educator brings all of these components together to help build the best possible learning environment for students.

A crucial component to becoming an outstanding educator is passion. Teaching is a calling. Outstanding educators heed this calling and strive to do what is best for their students. When the teacher has passion and enthusiasm for their work, the atmosphere of the classroom improves and the excitement for learning shows. With passion comes an understanding of each student in the classroom. Teachers will invest in their students, supporting them in not only academics but extracurricular activities. Every day while teaching unexpected circumstances may arise, and an educator must be prepared to deal with these events. These circumstances could include a sick student, fire drill, or more often quickly evaluating student understanding and needing to advance or review a lesson. By recognizing and knowing the differences in students’ learning styles, educators can adapt their lessons to fit the individual needs of each child. While flexible, an educator must also provide consistent attitudes, actions, and procedures. Students thrive in an environment where they know what is expected of them each day. This builds trust between teacher and student, and eventually respect.
