The Social Worker The social worker applied an evidence based intervention that would benefit the agency chosen to help Susan. Since there were prior signs of depression in Susan, the social worker took it under her responsibility, along with Susan’s agreement to get a membership to the YMCA. She considers herself an active older adult, so hopefully this will help with recovery. The social worker said that, “my biggest concern about trying to get you into another agency is to work on the depression that your primary physician diagnosed.” This agency is perfect because Susan has access to transportation there, as well as group exercise classes, walking clubs, individual work outs, as well as socialization clubs. The intervention was applicable because Susan mentioned, “I guess depression isn’t something I thought I’d be diagnosed with. I didn’t think that was with people my age. I didn’t want to have to use mental health services.” It was clear that Susan needed more structure than just the antidepressant medication she was prescribed (Sirey et al., 2012). That’s one of the main reasons the social worker chose an agency to get Susan more active, and she was hoping she’d find commonalities through socialization
