Interview With Steve Jobs

In an interview with Steve Jobs, he explained a personal experience many years ago. Jobs was reading a magazine and came across an article listing the species best suited and able of “locomotion, … [getting] from point A to point B”. Jobs made the inference that humans, a dominating species, were not near to the top of the list. Next, it was tested the ability of locomotion when a human utilized a bicycle. This test immediately made the human dominant on the list. This got Steve thinking “that we humans are tool builders... and that we can fashion tools that amplify these inherent abilities…”. Steve continues to relate this idea to a technological standpoint that “a computer has always been a bicycle of the mind.” A simple magazine article …show more content…
Steve was critical with detail and simplicity in his products especially, and was meticulous on the friendliness and visual design of all of his products as well. In a biography of Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson, he explained that Jobs needed every screw to be perfect and circuit board had to be lined up and look good (npr.org). Those small, meticulous details are some of the reasons why Jobs became respected and known for. For instance, “he even wanted the curves on the screen … to feel friendly” says Isaacson (npr.org). Moreover, having a user friendly interface was important to Jobs, as he would address in an interview that “the whole idea of the Macintosh was a computer for people who want to use a computer rather than learn how to use a computer” (WGBH.org). “Jobs was an obsessive perfectionist, and people knew it, especially his co workers at Apple. “That obsessiveness occasionally drove his Apple co workers crazy — but it also made them fiercely loyal”, Isaacson illuminates (npr.org). Therefore, with a boss as scrupulous as Jobs, it’s no mystery as to why he helped orchestrate Apple into one of the most well known and respected tech companies of the age. With this objective in mind, one can easily be influenced by a company like this, and specifically by the person leading it. Jobs created products with this obsessive fervor that were beautiful, elegant, user …show more content…
While at Apple, many firsts were created under the leadership and innovative touch of Steve Jobs. For example, Jobs would explain in a sort of foreshadowing sense that “we’re going to revolutionize human communication”, and he was not wrong (WGBH.org). The company created the iPod initially, which essentially transformed how people thought of portable music and how people listened to music. The iPhone was developed at a later date, which combined features of the iPod with that of a phone and a computer (investopedia.com). It could be safe to assume that the iPhone is one of the most well known and used phones around the world. The iPhone was the first of its’ kind, it paved the way for future smartphones, and it changed not only the cellular industry, but changed how some people do business as well. Furthermore, Jobs didn’t stop at a phone and a touchscreen portable music device; Apple continued to create the first tablet with touchscreen technology and no keyboard, or better known as the iPad. Steve Jobs, while at Apple, innovated technology and how people thought of it, including large tech companies, who would follow in Apple’s footsteps, using Apple’s ideas and technology to elevate their own. With Jobs creations and innovations, he created a never ending competition and respect between tech companies
