I interviewed JG, a senior in high school in an affluent area of the South Hills of Pittsburgh. JG had an easy disposition, he seemed very eager to obtain advice on a potential career path, and we established a rapport quickly. He was curious and interested and remained comfortable throughout the interview, as was I. He was interested in seeking out further information about career development, and I provided him the recommended websites we received for the assignment. It was through JG’s openness and honesty that I was able to understand much about his likes, his background and potential areas of his experiences that may help him find a career that he may find fulfilling. With the caveat, of course, that I ensured he knew that any suggestions

I interviewed Timothy Beatty who is the dad of my friend Jonathan. I chose him because he works in software engineering, but majored in marine biology while minoring in chemistry and computer science engineering. This intrigued me because in high school I took an oceanography class and fell in love with the study, I wanted to major in oceanography and minor in marine biology, but I figured engineering would be more economic. I still love engineering, so it is not something I’m doing just for the jobs or money. In fact, I am considering a minor in computer science engineering since programming is so fun.…

The interview did not take a long time as Dylan answered most questions in a few words or short sentences and moved along very quickly. After most of the interview questions were answered, we discussed what kind of area I was interested in going into in the future after completing my undergraduate degree. He said he was unsure of what his major was going to be when he first started college and then decided he would go to law school after his third year of undergraduate work. This eased my mind as it reassured me that I still have time to decide what career path I want to take. To end the interview, Dylan then recommended that the Iowa Law Review was one of the most influential peer-reviewed academic journal as this journal had the most contact with law students at the University and it was cited often.…

This career would fit greatly for what my parents and family members expect of me. From my genogram, I learned that most of my family members do something that affects society directly.…

“Climbing The Golden Arches” is an essay written by Marissa Nuñez published originally in New Youth Connections, republished in The Norton Sampler. The main idea of this essay is that although the road to a successful career is fraught with hardships, it can be overcome with hard work and determination. At the beginning of the essay, Nuñez describes a scene in which she and her cousin went to eat at McDonald’s and decided to try out for a job there out of curiosity. They filed their applications and about a month later had their job interviews in which both passed. The author was initially surprised to receive the job but that turned into happiness when she realized that she no longer would have to depend on her mother for money anymore.…
