Learning to be mindful helps clients focus on their present thoughts and to live in the moment. Distress tolerance is accepting the things that happen to you as they happen. Emotion regulation is the acceptance and understanding of one’s own emotional experiences. It also involved learning to decrease negative emotions and increase positive emotions. Finally, interpersonal effectiveness refers to life skills that most individuals possess. Interpersonal effectiveness is how we interact and communicate with each other, and is the foundation of healthy relationships (Love, 2016). PHP is a two week program which runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. PHP is made up of four Dialectical Behavior Therapy focused group sessions per day, which covers all the individual domains: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Medication management by a Springwoods psychiatrist was also provided. Tammy completed the two week program and then began the step down program. More than three absences would have resulted in immediate dismissal from the program. Since there were no reported barriers to treatment and considering Tammy’s motivation to change, I did not foresee this as being a problem. An appointment was set up with a General Practitioner since the step down program does not include medication
