Abortion Women make many many tough choices in their lives. One is a choice that is kept very quiet, and not many people like to talk about it. Abortion is not an easy topic to talk about, but many women have found a safe website to share their stories on their own abortions and their experiences with their abortion. My Abortion My Life is an informative website that is project of the organization Preterm. One of the women, whom will remain anonymous, shared a tremendously touching story on this website.

Women face scrutiny if they choose to receive an abortion or even if they plan to keep the child. Some children, in private religious schools, are not taught the fundamentals of what abortions are. An article written by Felicia H. Stewart and Philip D. Darney in the informational journal Perspectives On Sexual & Reproductive Health states, “For some it is a religious restriction for some even the schools they went to oppose the practice of contraception and comprehensive sexuality education” (38). Not only does this prevent young individuals to learn the necessary information they need to know about their bodies, but this sets a mind set that could potentially make them prejudice against anyone who receives an abortion. One of the stories on My Abortion My Life shows this shame of religious practices. “[She] was 18 when [she] had the abortion... It 's taken [her] a long time to come to terms with what happened 26 years ago. [She has] always wanted children, but [her] education (or lack thereof), and the shame and guilt [she has] felt by a Catholic upbringing ripped that away from [her]” (“Sharing Our Stories”). This woman had the choice to be scrutinized by her family for being pregnant, or to be shamed for have finding out she had an abortion.
