First of all, Louise almost felt a sense of relief when she found out her husband was dead. Since the story was only written in an hour that means that it did not take long for her to be sad. She was sad but then in less than an hour she felt free. This shows in a quote “When she abandoned herself a little whispered word escaped her slightly parted lips. She said it over and over under her breath “free, free, free!”(2 Chopin). Mallard. This story was published in 1894 and the Mallard family was a typical working class family. Mr. Mallard worked outside of the home and Louise most likely stayed home and this was an effect of her not having an education. Since the story was written such a long time ago, the readers can conclude that most women did not have education back then and she was most likely a wife that worked from home. “Spring days, and summer days, and all sorts of days that would be her own” (3 Chopin).
