n “The Story of an Hour,” Mrs. Mallard spends a long hour thinking about how her life would change without her husband and many of her thoughts reflect the Feminist Theory. There are several examples that make the readers realize that she has feministic characteristics. Louise was relieved with the death of her husband, she did not have as many freedoms as her husband, and in the story she did not always talk about a man.
First of all, Louise almost felt a sense of relief when she found out her husband was dead. Since the story was only written in an hour that means that it did not take long for her to be sad. She was sad but then in less than an hour she felt free. This shows in a quote “When she abandoned herself a little whispered word escaped her slightly parted lips. She said it over and over under her breath “free, free, free!”(2 Chopin). In this quote the readers can conclude that she is happy that her husband is dead because she is now free from him and she does not have to live for him anymore. “There would be no one to live for her during those coming years; she would live for herself” (2 Chopin). The quote is making it clear that Mr.

Mallard. This story was published in 1894 and the Mallard family was a typical working class family. Mr. Mallard worked outside of the home and Louise most likely stayed home and this was an effect of her not having an education. Since the story was written such a long time ago, the readers can conclude that most women did not have education back then and she was most likely a wife that worked from home. “Spring days, and summer days, and all sorts of days that would be her own” (3 Chopin). This quote is best shows that Louise is going to be able to live a life that is wants and she will not have to always depend on her husband to do things for her and make the money for her. Without her husband she will be in more control of her

In the 19th century, women did not have the option to pick what they needed to be or do in life; it was decided for them. In a marital relationship, the view of a woman’s place in a society is a ‘glorified servant’ to her husband. In many of ways this can affect a woman and the sense of who she is. The three stories by Kate Chopin “The Story of an Hour”, “The Storm”, and “Desirees Baby” demonstrates how easily women can become brainwashed and forced to conform to social norms and values. However, it also demonstrates how women at times, rebelled against these beliefs.…

While reading “Story of an Hour” I noticed that "Story of an Hour" was the measure of incongruity Kate Chopin utilized all through the story. This gave me a blended response to her work. At first I didn't comprehend her utilization of incongruity and felt that it made the story less serious than I suspected it ought to be, considering the occasions. The primary incongruity that I went through and stood out to me, was how Louise responded when being informed of her spouse’s death.…

Also In the article, “ Fatal Self-Assertion in Kate Chopin’s, The Story of an hour” written by Lawrence L. Berkove says, “There would be no one to live for her during those coming years;she would live for herself” (Chopin, par. 14). I agree with this argument because she is feeling lonely at this moment of the story, and she thinks that she would not be able to continue without him. The loneliness she was feeling is described in every paragraph. The way she is saying over and over again “Free!…
