What is the purpose of an Antecedent behaviour and consequence (ABC) chart? How does it helps determine the function of a behaviour? With one or more observations can be identify the function.What was the final function of Sara’s behaviour. In some cases, there are many different antecedents in place before the reason of the behaviour is identify. That is why it is important to conduct more than one. Many factors and settings events lead to that behaviour, changing them can have a different outcome. How changes in antecedents and consequences can alter the behaviour.

Sara’s moan happened right after the class grow quiet and turn to listen to her answer. All the attention is on Sara, as a result, the teacher comes closer to her. At that point, the possible function seems to be sensory/ attention. What follows, it is because her teacher came closer, it cause Sara to hit her desk with her fist 3 times. The teacher places a hand on her shoulder and says, “Sara, please answer the question, I know you can”. Her possible behaviour function seems to be tangible, her attempt to remove the anxiety that the teacher’s question and behaviour is causing her. Right after her teacher tell her that she is capable of answering the question, Sara starts to cry and as a consequence, ran out of the room. The reason of her behaviour is Escape.
