Skittle Hive Experiment

“To get into the bowl or not to get in the bowl.” That was the question of the hour, as construction on Skittle Hive began, for it landed in the bowl it would be a reward with a glory and honor, not to mention a cool ten points. To do this many things had to be considered, such as elasticity constants, and the energy that was being used. Once that was done the catapult had to be made and tested on angle and how far it could firer. Then it was ready, ready to fire and reach for the skies or maybe ten points. All because physics was put into play. More specially the principle of energy. To make a catapult that could send a skittle through the air and into a bowl to reach its goal an energy had to be used, that energy was elastic energy. So what is elastic energy. Elastic energy is a potential mechanical energy …show more content…
All that was need was less than popsicle sticks, a plastic spoon, some hot glue and of course a rubber band The biggest thing that had to be considered was making stable base so that the catapult could rest on a surface so it could properly. A guide was also constructed so that markings could be placed on it so as to know how far to pull the spoon back that will be discussed later and to help the spoon from shifting so it could fire straight. A hexagon was formed that was used to stop the spoon to make an abrupt motion and as a base to tie the spoon on and hey a catapult should look cool and the hexagon is how The Skittle Hive got its name. The biggest thing was tying the rubber band. The right tension had to be found so that there was just enough energy to get it into the bowl. With that The Skittle Hive was born and ready to be tested and hopefully send a catapult to its designated target a sliver bowl. So what needed to be tested on the Skittle Hive more than you would think. The first issue that needed to be addressed was finding the right angle to launch the

    a. The child’s first goal in her original task of creating a machine to make spaghetti is to put a pole in the hole of one box and put the other side of the pole into the hole of another box, so they are connected. She observes that the pole will not go through the hole in the box. She then takes off the ribbed cylinders on each side pole, and slides the boxes with holes in them back down the poles. Her goal is still trying to place a pole in the side hole of one cube to connect it to the cube parallel of it. She observes that the pole will still not go through the holes of the cube.…

According to the Oxford Dictionary, “energy” is defined as the “power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines.” By the Oxford’s definition we can see that there is a correlation between energy and industry. It can be confirmed by the role of coal in the Industrial Revolution, in Great Britain, late 1700s. Coal was the main energy resource utilized by industries during that time. Thus the development of the emerging industry was extremely dependent of the supply of coal.…
