Not knowing if the king’s guards were out searching the desert for him, Caub decided to wait to steal the herd. “Surely if this slave brought the herd out today, he will do so for the next couple of days,” he reasoned. Caub continued on his way to the hideout to regroup with his band of bandits. Upon reaching the hideout he excitedly described the next target and his plan to steal the herd. Rumors of the bandit attacks had been spreading through the castle for weeks. The rumors eventually spread to the slaves. The rumors of the bandit attacks made Nomm nervous since he went out alone with the king’s herd. If he were attacked by the bandits he would have no support to defend the herd, being miles away from the castle with only a sling shot for a weapon. “I did it! I actually fought off the bandits!” he thought. “But no one at the castle will believe that I actually defeated the bandits. I am going to need to bring back some proof for King Amlah.” Nomm went about gathering up the arms that he cut off and using some of the bandits’ clothing as a travois, he drug the arms back to the castle.
Finally arriving back at the castle, Nomm dropped all the arms at the feet of the castle guards and demanded to see the king. Upon being granted an audience with King Amlah, Nomm related the how he defended his herd and defeated the bandits. The king did not believe Nomm’s wild story until the guards brought the pile of arms before him. A man of his word, King Amlah set Nomm free.
