The Importance Of Good Writing

What is “Good” Writing? What is writing? More importantly what is “good” writing? Writing is expressionism. Writing gives you the chance to use your creative mind and to express your opinion. Writing is a wonderful tool to express your opinions and show your unique ideas but not everybody’s writing is good. Good written papers are rare and difficult to create and they take many revisions and plenty of luck. What separates ordinary writing from good writing is that it, most importantly, interesting and captures your attention. Good writing also has a major takeaway idea that leaves you enlightened. Having a good take away is the main reason you should even write a paper is for the take away idea. But it’s not about having, or not having a take away idea, it’s about how powerful the message is and how it affects the reader. The best papers are considered to have left an impact on people and change them and that they were never the same after reading it. In David Foster Wallace’s This is Water speech he has great take away ideas that says, (2005) “ If you worship money and things, if it is where you tap real meaning in life, then you will never have enough.” As soon as he says that it starts to focus all the other things he had said earlier and make me into a condensed take away idea. The take away idea is crucial to any good writing piece and it needs to be a powerful take away that makes you feel enlightened. Why else would we write a good paper if we were not to leave your great ideas imprinted on the paper? Good writing needs to be powerful and enlightened as it is what we want to read. “Why are we reading if not in hope that the writer will magnify and dramatize our days, will illuminate and inspire us with wisdom, courage, and the possibility of meaningfulness, and will press upon our minds the deepest mysteries, so we may feel again their majesty and power?” (Dillard, 2013). Good writing requires many things but is not impossible. Good writing always leaves a profound lesson and leaves you enlightened. To have the lesson more profound the writer needs to be able to have personal accounts and have the writing truly mean something to them. Obviously good writing needs to capture your attention and make the reader entertained throughout the article. Good writing is a gift that can help you learn lessons from reading and writing it yourself as the only reason we should write is to leave us enlightened and taught a new lesson that we can become better than we were before we endeavored in writing or reading good
