A Broken Home Analysis

This story is an example of one family that I have been helping recently. The mother of seven with barely a roof over their heads, and not merely enough money to provide even the smallest of toys for the baby through ages 12, her children share a small four room house with three beds and the very basic of necessities. A small Christmas tree propped up against the wall in a corner barely standing with bare branches. Not a single ornament or gift to add to it.
As I observed the 3 year old trying to entertain herself, I watched her happily take a disconnect notice for a utility service they would soon be without, and turn it into a car. She folded it up to make it resemble a car and for the wheels she found a few buttons and one penny. Of course she couldn 't move the car as the items were not attached, and I realized that the situation was their lives.
The mother has a vehicle with only one payment left to make, but as many of you know, that last payment is often the same

Anyway, I gathered some details about the family, and then gathered as much as I could bring over to them from my house. I couldn 't get there until almost 9pm, because I was helping at the DCS facility that was short on volunteers to help care for the many kids in their care that night, so I was a little concerned about showing up to a strangers house in Phoenix after dark. I said a quick prayer in my car, and knew that God was with me. I met the family, and learned many things about them, but the only thing that I needed to know was that they were in need of help, and I could help them. Not just with material items, but the mother was in desperate need of knowing that God wasn 't punishing her and causing her that horrible

Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…

You would think people who have next to nothing in their lives, would want everything they could have their hands on. After spending a week with people who had less then me, I understood that I was completely wrong. I learned that people who have nothing are the most caring and empathetic. The people who lived at the camp we were staying at, greeted us with open arms and warm hearts. As a mission team, we were obviously caring people.…

The neighborhood surrounding it isn't the best to live in, most of the houses are dilapidated and barren. The families that live in the area are mostly poverty stricken. There is a reason we go to help every year and that is because my grandmother used to be really poor when she was a child. She remembers when organizations gave her and her siblings a gift box every Christmas and the joy that would bring her. Correspondingly, every year, she helps the people organize and distribute toys to the kids in need in the community.…

The readings on socioeconomic class talk about the inequality within institutions. To be specific, Duffy and Mandell’s reading talks about the cycle of poverty, with the different perspectives of welfare and whose “worthy” to receive it without the title of laziness or irresponsible attached to it, plus the physical and emotional strain it has on individuals and those around them. Duffy and Mandell also expand on the role of women and the inequality within the workplace. Mooney goes into depth about the myths and realities of welfare and the perspectives individuals hold towards those who are in lower and higher classes. Mooney also talks about the discreteness in the topic of class because majority of Canadians are in the middle class,…

For the most part growing up in a middle class family and in a fairly small town like Saginaw makes it easy to think that everyone else is just as financially stable as your family. This can lead to the mind set that really low income families live in a different city, state, or even a different country. Sometime it takes the holidays to realize that families who have trouble to provide necessities for living live right in your community, and can't financially afford to provide a dream Christmas for their children which provides hope through their struggles. The importance of understanding this and then applying action is highly encouraged through programs such as The Salvation Army's angel tree of which I've taken a part of, and applied to…

October 12th. The day that I,Heather Kubel, a freshman at Sierra Lutheran High School, would have embedded in my memory forever. The day that I will always be able to remember the exact details, despite the shudder that would come from recalling it. I had had a pretty basic life up to now. I had an older brother in college and two parents who had taken me to church every Sunday since I was a little girl; despite the fact that my father and the rest of my family were Jewish.…

Leadership on the line by Ronald A. Heifetz and Marty Linksys is a very timely book. Maggie’s description of her Indian community and the effects of alcohol made me think of many urban communities and the pain that lurks in those communities. The stories she shares about Lois and the heart she had for her community and desire to make it better make you think we need more leaders like that. Lois leadership inspired me because she saw something wrong in her community she believed she could bring change. Lois is a good picture of servanthood she doesn’t sit and think someone should so something…

That is why I have decided that I needed to do something to help them out, as well as to provide them with a couple days of relief; a day where they don't have to worry about providing for their families, a day where they can relax and have a smile on their face and let someone else do all the worrying for them, a day they can actually sit down and enjoy time together with one another. Now that I am older, I understand that there will always be struggles in life, struggles that some people don't want to face; I also understand how difficult life can be, especially if you have a family with and the provider has a low paying job or not having any source of income to provide your family with. Giving to those not as fortunate, will make me feel like I am starting something that can make a change in this world, something that will motivate others to do the same and help those who are in need and make this world a better place. This mission trip will consist of providing a nice meal and fun activities to all of those low income families, especially to those families that have young kids. I love to cook and help others!…

I had not ever been in a car accident before in my life, so when I experienced one, I did not enjoy nearly dying. It happened four years ago, I can still vividly remember everything.
