This is really my first opportunity given the circumstances to speak directly to you after the presentation of evidence. I would like to start by saying that as you all know, procrastination is truly the root of all evil, and that rushing through things always leads to errors. Now they claim that Grace Dayton poisoned the tea that she dries and processes. I don’t know about you, but I’m not the best guesser. If I was given a 50% chance to guess correctly seven times I know as well as any of you that I would guess incorrectly at least once. Yet, somehow Mrs. Sophia Abram is still alive. As I presented the branch of the buttonball tree earlier it clearly has died. If the tree took the life out of Sophia’s husbands then when a branch was taken off it wouldn’t have died because theoretically it would still be “full of life”. Our witness Jacob Duncan saw Sophia brewing a poison. This is proven by Sophia as she said at night, during the same time James saw Sophia, Sophia claims to be outside seeing Grace nurture the tree. They want to say that there was a platonic relationship between Jacob and Grace because they framed letters to her. Yet Jacob could not write. He is clearly illiterate and stumbles over every other word. This case is about one main component. It is about people who were injured, but not by my client. Who did nothing to provoke it and whose family members, some of whom are here in the courtroom and elsewhere who have suffered tremendous losses without any provocation or anticipation of
