An Example Of Foreshadowing In Chopin's The Awakening

One example of foreshadowing in the story is in the beginning when it is mentioned that Louise has heart problems. This can be taken in the symbolic sense, meaning that she has relationship problems. On the other hand, it can be taken literally, since she actually has issues with her heart. These issues partly cause her death.

Irony can be seen in the ending of the story. When Louise dies, the doctors said she died of joy, which is the opposite of her actual cause of death. Chopin does this to make the readers analize and come to the conclusion if this diagnosis is true or not.

Chopin also employs imagery and symbolism in this story. This can be seen in her description of Louise's body language. Another example of this is the

Then he brought it forward in a mighty swing right at my head… It was Erik”... Then she said, “Honey, you know how it is with your eyesight.…

Foreshadow, is another vital literacy element, which author Chopin marvelously uses in introduction of the story, to drag the reader’s attention and to provide them a clue about end of the story. In the starting, by giving Mrs. Mallard heart’s problem, the author leaves some indication for the readers, to guess about the rest of the story and after reading the introductory part, the reader can easily predict the rest of the story. Author Chopin Declares, “Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband's death” (1). Such statements make a mind of reader that probably because of such serious problems; she can lose her life in later story. At the…

One example of foreshadowing shown in Romeo and Juliet was found on page 838, Lady Capulet says, “Ay, sir; but she will none, she gives you thanks. I would the fool were married to her grave…” What Lady Capulet is saying is telling readers that Lady Capulet believes that Juliet is acting as if she doesn’t want to get married because it would be like dying to her. This is important because Juliet later kills herself because she does not want to be married to anyone but Romeo. She would rather die with Romeo than live without him. In another example of foreshadowing shown in Naughts and Crosses can be found on page 280 when Sephy’s servant asks,“You- you’re not pregnant are you?”…

ne of the main things in a story is the tone, which is what will make you understand how the writer or a character in the story feels towards something in particular. When Armand and Desiree got married at eighteen and she had a baby during the first years of their marriage, happiness was the tone and not only because he married the love of his life but also because Desiree had a baby boy. In those days, men prefer a male than a female as a child so they can continue to pass on the family’s last name. Happiness was the tone for a moment when Armand loved his wife and child, “Oh, Armand is the proudest father in the parish”, said Desiree (Chopin 2). The bad part about the tone of the story is that everything has a dark side and therefore anger…

Louise cried after receiving the news that her husband had been killed. Chopin states, “a sob came up into her throat and shook her, as a child who has cried itself to sleep continues to sob in its dreams.” This use of imagery gives the reader a clear picture of a crying baby who is not happy. By depicting Louise as a child, one can gather that at this point she is young and naïve and does not realize what exactly she is crying about, often as a child does. After Louise stops crying, however, she comes to the realization that she is now an independent woman.…
