On the macro level according to Ashman and Hull (2009), “Macro events may include poverty, discrimination, social pressures, and the effects of social policies” (p.14). Some strengths of working with Trent on the macro level, are determining if the surroundings of his environment are contributing to the problems that he is having. Trent is affected by his immediate environment, therefore, another strength is being able to work with his school system and his family environment. Evaluating the school is an opportunity to determine if Trent is being discriminated or stereotyped because of his race. In addition to evaluating the school will be determining if the school has enough resources for Trent’s educational needs. Being able to work with his family environment will be beneficial to determine if his family needs any resources, this may include housing assistance, educational assistance, food assistance, etc. However, the downfall to working with a client on the macro level according to Ashman and Hull (2009), “Macro-system changes are seldom.
