From an ethical standpoint, when Mr. Garbo employed Amber, in the article “An Ethical Flaw” he was putting his company in an unethical situation. Amber graduated with her degree, she needed a job, and like all jobs, they are hard to come by when you first graduate. Amber’s dad Allen had power and had the ability to help her because he knew connections in the business world. The ethical issue is with Bill Garbo, her boss, because he had other motives of getting more business from her father and she knew that and took advantage of the issue. Amber made things unfair to her fellow employees. The first ethical issue, Amber should have filled out an application. Bill should have reviewed it and if he liked what he saw based on her experience, job …show more content…
Now that Amber is an employee of this company, many actions can take place to address her behavior. If Amber’s co-workers saw her bad work ethics, such as being late, taking long lunches, leaving early, and not doing her own work they need to tell her supervisor and be whistle blowers (Kaptein, M. 2011). It is better to report things, stop it in its tracks, correct it; then let it get so bad that the entire company goes down for the unethical decisions (Kaptein, M. 2011). If the bosses do nothing about her bad work ethic of being late, taking long lunches, making the other employees do her hard work (Kaptein, M. 2011) then employees will start to copycat her behavior. This could cause a bad work environment and jobs will start not being performed correctly or at all; and the company will start to go under and they would be forced to hire a new staff (Somers, M.J. 2001). The company needs to encourage whistle blowing and tell employees that it will not question its management team. They are afraid of revenge, afraid of canceling a business deal like gaining future business with Amber’s father Allen Davis (Kaptein, M. …show more content…
As a manager, it is my job to oversee everyone and to make sure everyone is working productively. My job is to make sure my employee’s job is being done correctly. If I did not do this, I would be failing as a manger to my company. Therefore, having ethics in a career environment is important not only does it keep the peace of the employees, but it can also help keep the company functioning and being successful. The company can also stay away from lawsuit scandals that costs a lot of extra money the company does not need to spend. It also saves time of firing people and it saves time and money from having to rehire new employees. It can save companies from looking bad for customers. Therefore, having ethics is important and they need to have employees be whistleblower because mangers can be tied up in the office or away from the office and does not always see what is going on. It also could save them time by calling out their behavior.
