An Essay On My Hero's Journey

Decent Essays
There we stand, silent but ready to act upon our intuition
We consider these thoughts as folly and daft
However, we do not realize the potential within these subconscious ideas

Gather within yourself the courage to gracefully accept yourself and determine the pathway towards success as you fill your innocent mind with the great information we are presented on a daily basis

Look around and breathe deep the air that surrounds you continuously
Gander upon the miraculous souls that crawl alongside you as you meander through your journey known as life.

Realize the importance of becoming one with nature and appreciate all that you see
Seeking the wrong intentions that are stuffed beyond your comprehension will only hinder you as you progress through life

King Arthur and Spiderman are two fictitious characters that are both similar, and dissimilar to each other. In an excerpt from Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces, he writes about monomyth, which is a twelve step process that is divided into four sections. This represents a continuous cycle that the character in the story must go through in order to complete their journey. King Arthur and Spiderman follow the cycle of the Heroes Journey by events in their lives made parallel to the cycle of the Heroes Journey. Sitting at my desk, I stared down at my schoolwork while my mind remained static. Suddenly, I found myself beginning to radiate golden light as my body faded from existence; then before I knew it, I rematerialized out of thin air. This does not happen often, so I was rather confused as I stood atop a cloud, high up in the sky. That is, until I noticed a large, human-like figure appear before me in a holy light. The traditional hero’s journey begins with a calling, the hero is drawn to certain circumstances in which they must decide whether or not to accept the quest. However, the feminine journey differs, instead the protagonist determines there is something about their life that must change, and only they themselves, through their own free will, can resolve it. Characters such as Alba, Fa Mulan/ Kingston, and Rahel take the challenge to tackle their deepest psychological issues while simultaneously confronting the patriarchy and political corruption.
