An Essay About My First Artifact

Decent Essays
The first artifact is important to me is my pearl necklace. This necklace is my favorite; it’s made from strips of leather and has a pearl tied to it on the front with a beautiful blue stone tied to the back. One of the reasons it is important to me is because it was made by one of my best friends and her mom, who are very special to me and who I adore dearly. Another reason is because it was made for three of us so we all three have one and it represents our friendship and how good of friends we are. My necklace is important to me because it was handmade by one of my best friends for me her and another one of our best friends and it will always represent our friendship. Another important thing to me is my watch that

My artifact is an Incan Sun Mask of the Incan sun god Inti, an all-powerful god who was also very generous. It represents that I’ve learned about the Middle Ages because it shows that I have a clear understanding of what this Incan artifact is. I know that Inti was not often represented in Inca art, but when he was, it was usually as a gold statue, a sun disk, or a golden sun mask. Gold was tied with the god because Incans believed that the precious metal was the sweat of the sun. The sun god Inti was heavily worshipped, and there were even human sacrifices - including child sacrifice - on special ceremonial occasions or in times of crisis (such as earthquakes or death in the royal…

The objects that I were assigned were the Bandolier bag from the Native American Delaware Tribe, and the Painted elk hide from the Easter Shoshone tribe. Bandolier bags were extremely popular among most Native American tribes, and each tribe expressed their culture through them in a different way. This particular Bandolier bag comes from the Delaware, or Lenape, Tribe. It is estimated that it was created around 1850 C.E., and is crafted with beads on leather hide. This object has two components to it, one being the shoulder drape and the other being the small bag.…

The ontological status of non spatiotemporal entities is often a controversial issue among philosophers. Fictional characters are discussed in particular because of their prominence in our ? culture. Amie L. Thomasson and Alexius Meinong address this ontological controversy surrounding fictional characters found in literature through different positions. Amie L. Thomasson’s paper, “If We Postulated Fictional Objects, What Would They Be?” introduces the artifactual theory in which fictional characters are ‘abstract artifacts’ created by and depend on their authors for their existence. Under the Meinongian Theory of Objects, anything that the human mind can think of or refer to is an object with a certain ontological statues of either existence,…

Because everyone differs from one another, each person’s opinions and interpretations of everyday events will vary based on how the information is perceived. These differences are especially noticed when reading and analyzing works of literature. Poems, for example, often lead to an audience with very different interpretations of the meaning being conveyed. Although Natasha Trethewey’s poem, “Artifact,” is a rather simply structured and straightforward poem, the connotations of the diction can cause a reader’s interpretation to be completely different than the poem’s intended meaning.…

"It 's a Beautiful Thing": Art, Culture, History and Humanity in George Orwell 's 1984 In 1984 George Orwell pulls readers into his horrific and at the same time awe- inspiring totalitarian society, dictated by a dystopian political system that builds a world on omnipresent surveillance, public manipulation, oppression, hatred, propaganda and "their sole motive, [which is] the quest for power" (Paul 215) . Due to the unconditional control the party has over Oceania, there is evidently a paucity of beauty, culture and history. Art plays a crucial part of humanity, history and our depiction of the truth.…

I have always had a passion for history and storytelling since I was a child and decided in seventh grade world history class that I wanted to be an archaeologist, discovering ancient cultures and uncovering their secrets. I maintained this plan, arriving at Boston University as an archaeology major but after several semesters of study realized that it wasn’t the exact path for me. I began to grow my appreciation of museums, admiring how they could ignite wonder, curiosity, and learning in myself and others. I realized this was where I felt most at home. Therefore, I decided to change my major to art history, while retaining an archaeology minor, and explore history through the lens of artist’s interpretations and ideas.…
