An Essay About My Cultural Identity

Improved Essays
?Culture? and ?identity? are two words that people struggle with understanding. Trying to figure out who they are spiritually, culturally and just trying to find who they really are on the inside, but if you put those two words together ?culture? and ?identity? then people get really confused. They act as if they have learned a new word for the first time or as if they saw something extraterrestrial. People can say that they know their culture or ethnicity, but tell me this. Can they look at you in your eyes and tell you what their cultural identity is? I can truthfully tell you that I can't say that I am one culture because I am part of many and can never be defined as part of a certain culture and sometimes it can create conflict. Three different cultures I can name off the top of my head that I can say that I am part of is athletic, music, and surviving culture. My first culture is athletic culture and the athletic culture to me personally means that I am not restricted to one sport. I love all sports not matter what they are. Let's take football for example I love football I play football right now in school but I also love baseball. I also like to lift weights and what I mean by this is I don't like to just play sports but I like to improve physically all around. The definition of an athlete is a person who is proficient in sports and other physical exercise. I like to improve in sports and physically I like to improve. …show more content…
If I never got up everyday and listened to music and never worked out then I wouldn't be the person that I am today and because of me being part of all those cultures I feel I belong somewhere and culture helped me figure that out. If you know what culture you are part of then be about it and don't be embarrassed of it. Embrace it and never forget who you are and what makes who you are. Don't be afraid because that will haunt you
