For the rest of us that are not Amish, it is something that we come in contact with on a day to day basis, something that we have become confined to and enslaved by it. From the moment we awake, we come into contact with our phones. Most people set alarms through phones and as a result, the first sign of light we see is not from the sun but from the glaring screens of our phones. If one accesses the internet, you have came into contact with technology. Many of us have desk jobs which force us to stare at a screen for eight hours a day. Even reading the menu at your local fast food restaurant is electronic and you are even encouraged to download that fast food restaurant’s app on your phone for savings. Children could get assigned something to do on their IPads at school but as soon as the teacher turns their head, they switch to a YouTube video or a game. Even workers can do the same, if they are tasked with a something to do within a certain amount of time, it may be completed poorly or not even completed at all. This could cause failure for the students or even losing a job for the worker. What makes everything worse is that it is extremely addictive and hard to pull away from. You could be doing a spreadsheet for your job and you went to YouTube for assistance, next thing you know, you find yourself indulging in cat videos. Even in Fred Vogelstein’s essay: And Then Steve Said, “Let There Be an iPhone”, he states that “Very rarely did I see him become completely unglued “. Even Steve Jobs himself was glued on his own creation of the iPhone. This goes to show that we are more reliant than ever on technology. It can solve many of our everyday problems and for many of us, it is the first thing we see in the morning. It can be a hindrance at moments and even costly to keep up with, but even still, it proves its worth and that is why it is our most valuable asset we have
