Probably about fifty to sixty percent of of women in the world learn over time that they are with the wrong person. Women desire love and affection from men that don’t really care for that. Women have needs that they want men to meet. Dennis concludes, “an admirable man is one who has three qualities: strength, integrity, and ambition”, ( Dennis Prenger paragraph 8). Hooking Up by Kathleen A. Bogle. is a sociological study of people before and after college about the sexual phenomenon of "hooking up". Hooking up is the way mostly younger generations meet people and instead of courting the other person they have sex and usually never talk again. The term "hooking up" can be linked back to the mid nineteen eighties (Bogle 2008). Hooking up is very prevalent on college campuses and that is where Bogle 's study takes place. Bogle proves many arguments in this study.…

After reading "violence in intimate relationships: a feminist perspective" there are some harsh realities that some women do not want to face when they are or may be in a abusive relationship. Women face being labeled as a "battered woman" someone who has lost their morals or values to even stay with a male who is abusive towards them. I believe it is hard for women to leave a abusive relationship because they are scared especially if the abuse has been going on for years. I've seen a lot of movies based on women being abused by their significant other and from those movies i got that the woman has to at some point build this determination to leave that abusive relationship. Furthermore the woman has to feel like she has someone to turn to…

with the solution of an abusive relationship the author argues in her other book The Verbally Abusive Man--Can He Change, A Woman’s Guide to Deciding Whether to Stay or Go that change is essential ( 221). She gives emotional support for those too who are in a destructive partner-relationship by providing her suggestions on how to find a suitable solution. Most abusive men (could be woman as well), as she argues have created kind and admirable personas and have an "affable demeanor" therefore it is extremely hard to leave them (221). They fool everybody in their near surrounding, but behind the curtains they act differently and apply strong performative forces (221).…

Charlton McIlwain and Stephen Caliendo, both professors in media and political studies, wrote a book entitled Race Appeal. In the chapter “Producing Race Appeal: The Political Ads of White and Minority Candidates”, McIlwain and Caliendo discuss the implications of white and minority politicians using race-based appeals in their ad campaigns. In an excerpt from “Campaigning Through the Media” from Media Politics: A Citizen’s Guide by Shanto Iyengar and Jennifer McGrady, Iyengar and McGrady discuss the different media advertising strategies devised by candidates. Through the works of McIlwain/Caliendo and Iyengar/McGrady, I will be discussing the concepts proposed by McIlwain and Caliendo of de-racialization and racist potential as well as the…

Many women are trapped in abusive relationships. Leslie Morgan Steiner, the author of Crazy Love, calls it “a physical and psychological trap disguised as love.” In her Ted Talk, she points out questions that most people don’t comprehend and always ask: “Why does she stay [in abusive relationships]? Why doesn’t she just leave ?” However, most people do not realize the reality of this problem is much more complicated.…

Ronald W. Pies is a physiatrist and a professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Although he states in his article, “ Is it OK to spank a child every once in a while? “, that he and his wife do not have children, therefore he tries to keep all judgments aside, he still can not ignore the extensive negative evidence that corporal punishment (which includes spanking) has on children’s mental health. I believe the author is trying to come off very unbiased so he can catch the attention of parents without making them feel offended or attacked so he can explain the effects spanking has on children, hoping to change their beliefs on discipline. I like how he leaves his key question open in the title to catch the attention of people on both sides of the controversy; he doesn’t give his stance away quickly, which evades them an opportunity to skip over his article.…

A Letter to Adam J. Banks Dr. Adam J. Banks: I write this letter in order to express to you the impact your article, "Race, Rhetoric, and Technology: Searching for Higher Ground," has had on me personally. As someone who identifies as White, it has opened my eyes to how different spaces of the Internet react to the expression of Black culture. This reaction reflects a racism that has gradually been institutionalized within our society for hundreds of years, and is one that Whites should be ashamed of. You have stated that the Internet’s default user is White, and, because of this, the default language is Standard English. Based on these regulations, we reject the use of Black English as if it is not an actual language, as if it exists solely…

Aleksandra Tyzkiewicz Social Psychology 9.08.2015 INTRODUCTION Many people have been strongly attracted to someone, maybe even in love. The main problem is that these two are separated by a very thin line, as a matter of fact many people confuse attraction with love. These people believe that the feelings they have for the other person are so strong that they passed the attraction phase and walked into what is so called “love”. These feelings usually lead to relationships and this is what psychologists have been trying to explain; they say that a relationship is characterized by “love, care, commitment and intimacy” and only then it can be classified as consummate love, which means that all of these characteristics are present. This paper…

Relationships are never simple, no matter how perfect or compatible two people might be. There is always a give and take, a compromise even, nevertheless when it gets to the point of wanting to change a person that is when a line has been crossed eventually, it can be degrading. Warsen Shire’s “For Women Who Are ‘Difficult’ To Love,” illustrates how there are relationships that women feel that need to modify or mold themselves in a way to appease their partner in what they perceive as to be the “ideal woman.” In the first two lines, Shire writes, “you are a horse running alone, and he tries to tame you.”…
