In the business world, having a good understanding and use of interpersonal skills is vital to success. In particular, there are seven skills that, if mastered, will help one become well-balanced, clearly understood, and a more effective leader. Some of the most successful business people are assertive negotiators, who are good listeners, effective in the power of persuasion. They are good interviewers, who can provide helpful feedback, coaching others to success.

Sometimes feedback takes the form of encouragement or constructive criticism. A good leader should know how important it is to let employees know that they are doing a good job or they need to improve their performance. Most people like to know they are doing a good job. Persuasion is the ability to convince someone to do to believe something. When done ethically, he power of persuasion can be used to convince company leaders to change the direction of a failing company. While much less important, employees can be persuaded to do work they would not normally do, enhancing the worker 's skills or adding to overall productivity. When an employee needs specific, job-oriented instruction designed to improve the employees performance, a good leader will take the opportunity to coach the employee. Coaching can take place, annually, during a performance review, or the coaching can be a daily, ongoing activity. Coaching can be more positive encouragement than negative feedback. For instance, there may be a situation in which an employee must master a certain technique to be defective at their job.
