Since he presented the concealed weapons permit to the Bakersfield Police, and they still took him into custody, the police had made an illegal arrest. Also, since the mass shooting in Connecticut, more people from California want fewer restrictions on gun laws in order to protect themselves (Herdt, 2013, para.1). Even though the public wants less restriction, it is best for the children’s safety that there is not any kind of weapon on campus. In addition to that, schools have different ways of protecting themselves.

Schools are usually very well protected. If someone is a visitor, he/ she must sign in and out through the office. These visitors must wear badges to signify that they are only visitors. The office holds records of who is allowed to take children home and sign them out of school. There are also gates surrounding the school so that people do not just come and go as they please. Schools also practice lock-down drills so that if the school is alerted of a trespasser, the students and teachers all know how to treat the situation.

Kent Williams did not have the right to bring a concealed, loaded weapon onto school campus. He does have the right to bear arms. He also has the right to carry the concealed weapon because he has a concealed weapon permit.
