It seemed like a normal day in Kauai Hawaii for a young girl named Bethany Hamilton, but little did she know that day would change everything. Bethany was a young 13-year-old tall, blonde, and beautiful surfer who was thinking of going pro. On October 31, 2003 Bethany, Alana Blanchard Bethany’s best friend who was also a promising surfer, and Alana's father, went on a surfing holiday. On this beach off Kauai's North Shore, called the "tunnels" it was known by “locals as a great place to catch up to 80-foot waves.” While Bethany was laying on her surfboard resting parallel to the waves, suddenly a grey figure in the water appeared next her. She knew it was a shark as she could feel the shark tugging on her arm. She knew her arm was gone …show more content…
The movie soul surfer was based off the book she had written so the movie was accurately made. Soul surfer was one of the most inspiring movies I’ve ever seen. In last 10 minutes of the movie Bethany was at the national’s and her father, Tom took her aside, and said to her, “You know the greatest surfers; they all have this sixth senses. They know when the best waves are coming. They can feel it. It’s a gift. You know that moment between the sets when it’s quite, and the waves haven’t event formed yet it’s just energy surging through the water well that’s the time to be patient listen to your instinct, trust it you’ll know.” He told Bethany that she had the sixth sense, and at the last minute Bethany caught a massive wave. Unfortunately, it was too late the timer had gone off before she caught the wave and it didn’t count, but it counted for her. now today Bethany still surfs and is a happily married 26-year-old with a son. “I don't know how long I'll be competing, but I'll always be surfing. I'll be surfing until I'm old.” I believe Bethany will be surfing till the day she dies, cause after all salt water runs in the Hamilton
