During this shift I had to notify the doctor twice and felt the most relevant journal topic was advocacy. The first night I had three patients which included a 84 year old man who sustained a hip and right shoulder/humerous fracture from a fall at home and a history of HTN, CKD, MI with coronary stent placement, and diabetes, an 86 year old woman admitted for rapid A-fib with history of TIA, HTN, CHF, and rheumatoid arthritis, and finally a 35 year old woman who was being discharged following her treatment for polynephritis. During my final shift, I cared for a 71 year…

My day started a bit off, I had an emergency that morning that made me run a bit late for clinical. This made me miss some important information such as, how nurses in NCBH hand over to the next shift, but aside that, I had a wonderful day working with nurse Mrs. Osei. She welcomes me by introducing herself, which I responded likewise. She took me with her to do her morning rounds and administer medication to her assigned patient. After we were done with her morning medication, I went to one of her patient whom I was assign to by Mrs. Natasha to perform mini mental survey and general assessment on the patients.…

My first day in the nursing home I shadowed a certified nursing assistant. I thought I knew all there was to know about communicating until I began working with the elderly. My perspective immediately changed as I interacted with the residents. Whether transporting residents or attending to their needs, I observed that many of the elderly residents avoided eye contact and did not speak unless it was necessary. It seemed as though typical communication styles that I was use to, were not the norm in the nursing home.…

It is important to life your life, to not to sit around and reflect about the bad when you should be focusing on the good, to live your life down to the last seconds so that at the end you will not have regrets. I chose to analyze an untitled poem written by C. Joybell. All of her poems inspire me and go hand in hand with my life. In her poem, she writes how you can be the most beautiful person in the world and everyone can see the light in you but if you do not know it, then that does not matter. Every second that is spent doubting your life and your worth, is a second of your life that you wasted and it is a moment that is thrown away.…

Movement catches my eye, and I see a flock of birds soaring across the backdrop of the sky.…
