“Leadership by deception isn't leadership. It's fraud” a quote by Dashanne Stokes. Even though parties running to be elected often proclaim they can make a difference in a country, when they actually win their promises are often not followed through. This is because, despite humanity's best efforts, when placed in a position of power even those with the purest intentions succumb to unethical practices as seen in Matched by Ally Condie and The Circle by Dave Eggers. Such unethical practices consist of their obsessive need to control others and their reaction when control cannot be obtained, how they will endanger others for their own personal gain, and how they abuse the power given to them.
When placed in a position of power people inherit a need to control others, often responding poorly when others are not compliant. In Matched, upon learning that Ky and Cassia

This determined if workers would stay at their job or be moved to an unknown job which turns out to essentially be a death sentence. Unbeknownst to Cassia, she sorts him to be moved since he is a capable worker and if he stayed he would die before the normal lifespan, “Menial laborers like these don’t usually live to eighty… many die early… [around] sixtey, seventy”(Condie, 287). Instead of forcing the two apart, the Society makes Cassia the one who ensures Ky will leave, giving her the burden of sending someone she loves to their own death sentence all because she went against their wishes. Societies job is to ensure that people have a safe life and yet they purposely cause Cassia pain, as they set up an experiment based on their relationship, encouraging them to be together only to rip them apart.
