The narrator begins by talking about his experiences at sea and they are not good. He said that his adventures showed him the suffering both in other sailors and in himself. The narrator also talks about how he was starving, freezing, and lonely but no one that is not a sailor will never truly know how he feels. Then the cry of the cuckoo signals warmer weather and this just makes things worse because he wants to go out on the sea and adventure but he remembers all of the hard times he had and is getting mixed feelings. He then goes on to talk about how death only brings you earthly praise because all the gifts you receive after death you can’t take to heaven with you. The narrator claims that this is because there is no earthly pleasures
