An Analysis Of The Grand Trifecta In Relational Misunderstandings

Writing is like therapy and my hope is that I become a better person as a result of working on this book. Occasionally, I ask Avril to proof read and provide me with feedback. Upon reading my account of the woman who would not make eye contact with me at the party last Friday night, Avril complimented me on handling the situation without passing judgment on her. Her observation caught me off guard because this has not always been the case for me. In the past I have often, not only, taken someone's inexplicable and/or rude behavior personally, but I have also made judgments and assumptions about those people - the grand trifecta in relational misunderstandings.

Avril's observation is wonderful praise, indeed. Yay - It means I'm evolving!

You know that moment, that oh so wonderful moment, when someone takes the time to put pen to paper and write something that perfectly pairs words to your emotions and psychological state of mind? Much like a juvenile game of match the word with the picture, that we all greatly enjoyed playing in kindergarten. And you think to yourself, this person gets me, they understand what it is like to live with these thoughts, bucking around like a bull in a china shop. What a feeling it is to truly feel appreciated. That is precisely how I felt when reading Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird, understood and not sequestered in my own sense of panic, worry, doubt, anxiousness, and the ability to become utterly distracted by everything under the sun as soon as…

This semester has been quote a journey with works of literature that most would not read outside of the classroom. Most of the characters are the average type however there were a couple that stood out. The character that stood out the most was the narrator from “The Yellow Wall-Paper”, she is the one that had invoked ones sympathy and at the same time anger. The other three were Daisy from “The Great Gatsby”, Mrs. Mallard from “The Story of an Hour”, and finally Alice Waythorn from “The Other Two”. If these women were to meet the narrator what would their opinion of her be? Daisy with her sense of privilege would definitely be the first to jump in with an opinion, Mrs. Mallard would come in second, and Alice with her control of self…

Since the beginning of my first year at school I have been learning to read and write. Throughout these years I have had a lot of experiences with reading and writing. All through high school we would write responses and essays over books we read. Once I entered college everything changed; I began to learn about writers and people who were known because of their great works of literature. In college, you are held to a higher standard and responsibility than you are in high school; this challenge has encouraged me to work hard and because of this I have become better at writing.…

I just finished reading your novel The Swallows of Kabul. Upon reading it, I found that I was able to connect with the plot and characters in a way that allowed me to extract a deeper meaning of the text. Although the text ultimately gave me a deeper understanding of the Islamic culture, some parts of the text made me angry, while other parts surprised me. I also established a connection between this text and another text I read in the past, as they both had some parallelism in the plot line that allowed me to draw an even more interesting relationship. By analyzing my reactions, my past assumptions, and my past transactions with other texts, I found that I was able to create and develop a deeper meaning of the book.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…
