In order to write a successful essay there are certain steps to take they are called the four keys of writing. The first key is to Pre- write, followed by a draft, then edit/remove, lastly proof read the essay. If these four keys are followed you have a better chance of writing a successful paper.
The first key of writing an essay is to pre- write, which involves answering these following questions what’s your topic, whom is your audience, and the purpose of the essay. The editing key to shape up your sentences and check your 5 c’s: Cut, Check for action, connect, commit and choose the best words. David Shipley and Will Schwalbe said “The need to remember which kind of words form to use is one of the elements that makes it hard for native English speakers to master Japanese” (Pg. 355)
The last key is to proofread the essay this key is the clean-up key going back over your essay. Careful read the essay to check for errors, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Reading the essay out loud or having someone else read it aloud is another way to proofread your essay Shipley and Schwalbe said “ Also keep in mind that even in email, if you drop, for example, an important comma, you can change the meaning of a sentence 180 degrees”.
In order to write an essay these four keys are essential in building a strong structured essay. Think of them as being keys to open a door in a maze without these keys you’re at a standstill. The Pre- writing helps you find the topic to write, drafting help you come up with ideals for your topic and editing/proofreading shapes it up like pruning a bush.
