By choosing to spend time alone, we are denying ourselves an important nutrient in the garden of our social lives. In the article, “Loneliness is Deadly” by Jessica Olien, she speaks about how being lonely is essentially the same as being sick and mutates the cells in our body causing people to die prematurely, or become heavily dependent on drugs or alcohol. Because you are so alone, you never get the positive words of wisdom from your loved ones and end up in a well of emotions that you do not understand what to do with. However, some can argue that there is a difference between being alone and being lonely. This is true, but spending too much time being alone can lead to you being lonely and you may not even realize it. I can speak for this. I recently got a job at QFC, a sketchy grocery store in north Everett. Since I started working there my schedule has essentially been: wake up, go to school, go to work, eat dinner, do homework, sleep and repeat. And because my family works during the day while I work late afternoon/night shifts, our schedules are entirely different. There was even a time when I hadn’t seen them in six days. My health during this time was absolutely horrible. I was very stressed because of all I had to do in such little time, and extremely tired because I never got the chance to just sit down and breathe. I also had no one to remind me, “Hey! You should eat something yeah?” which meant that I would end up snacking on some Cheez Its at 3 am every once in awhile. For these six days, my life was a complete mess and I spent a lot of the time with a tear stained face. I also was missing out on all the great things, including watching my 2 year old brother say and do new things. Considering all of this, I definitely agree that being alone can have consequences that are detrimental to your
